Insurance coverage... any changes yet?
« on: February 18, 2025, 08:45:19 PM »

Has anyone experienced insurance coverage rates or replacement value changes since the bankruptcy?

I am hesitant to contact my carrier to discuss.

Pard, I recently renewed my insurance in fact even added an additional bike, my Experia and it went smoothly.  That was not an issue.  They are still under the impression that Energica USA is still alive and well and still in operation, which they in fact ARE.

You need insurance, so there really is no way around this.

What about appraisal of replacement costs?  No units available to purchase, or if so, a few discounted at dealers trying to unload them... so how do they assess replacement value?

I'm assuming a cash payout if anything unfortunate was to happen. But how will they assess how much to pay is what I'm wondering about

Yeah, my insurance certificate has come back with a cash replacement value.

If you are hesitant to conact your insurer, I'd pose as a new customer for any broadly equivalent insurer. They all follow the same underwriting standards

No insurance change here.

But why not just ask them how they determine value for a vehicle that is out of production and for which repair parts may be limited?

All insurance companies do it, and it may vary slightly depending on your state, or the country that one is in.  In the end, they'll likely just make a determination of fair market value depending on its pre-accident miles, condition and depreciated value....

The insurance companies I have used in my part of the world have proven to be extraordinarily unreasonable, so I am wary to bring up the issue and just leave well enough alone for now.  I have full coverage, with replacement value, but wonder how and if that could be assessed.

I was with one insurance company in my area for 20 yrs, home, business, umbrella, auto, motorcycle, everything covered, never a claim.  One day I inquired if they would cover my motorcycle if it was ridden and damaged on a race track.

They dropped me from all my policies due to excess risk.  When I responded that I was asking about coverage in a hypothetical case, they said, sorry, too bad so sad.

That comapny was Geico.

Geico ie Government Insurance Company have been known as slimy cock suckers for decades.  They were fucking the military over really bad too on many claims.  Geico loves to take your money but the moment you file a claim, drop you and give you 1001 ridiculous reasons to NOT pay you.  They are dirty.  State Farm is no better, stay away from them like Aids infested Herpes as well.

I asked .. and yah, I don't like it either but it's one of the very few who offer motorcycle insurance.... Progressive.. about that and they said, what is the list price if you need to buy a new one.  If the manu's website says a new one is going to cost you 25k, thats what we cut you a check for.  After that they go by comparative values, what would a similar model of someone elses item cost.  So my xxx chevy is no longer being built, ok, do they hae something similar, how much.... they went out of business... ok does ford sell something with similar stats to what you have... what does that cost.. is generally how they do it.

As for replacement costs.. they LOVE for you to believe blue book is all your thing is worth, but the truth is, if you are smart, and might need a lawyer to get involved. I want an EXACT replacement, that is what my policy says.  I want a 2023 Ribelle with THIS EXACT PACKAGE on it, that I had, and 14k miles on it, JUST LIKE I HAD.  Often times, instead of spending weeks scouring hoping to find one used somewhere for sale, to replace yours, they'll just say, here, get a new one, we are giving you MORE than what that is worth, because it's easier.  That gets them off the hook and hopefully gets you a new ride.

Very good advice from Specter. The only thing I’ll add is that a good agent will change the whole situation. I have Statefarm and have never had anything but good experiences because I only work with my agent and he handles all the BS and beureucracy. The only time I have to deal with the corporate machine is when I have to call the 800 number, which only happened once, and the agent coached me on what to expect.

State farm screwed floridians royally during hurricane andrew and were essentially kicked out of the state, although they'll say it was their choice.  The sleazed their way back in with a greasy shitty foot long used car salesman smile pretending hey guys, were back, and here for YOU !!!!

I used to have them and back in the day they were good but turned to crap over the years.  Their agents, most of them are ignorant, at least mine was, couldn't answer a thing, you'd be stuck with the corporate weenies who are actually worse in many cases.  I could never get a straight answer on them.  I had to file a claim when someone hit me, was totally that persons fault I was sitting still at a stoplight, both had state farm insurance, I was not filing any medical claims or trying to pull any stupid shit, just fix my bumper and reset the damned pre loads on the airbag... all kinds of ignorant games with them, your policy is inadequate.   ok fist off you MC cock $#^#$ MFers,  it's HIS policy that will pay it, HE hit ME, secondly I have full coverage and it's YOU on both ends, now lets try this again.  Just grimy.   Have heard many other people with problems with them.  Geico is just as awful.

State farm did not cover my solar system, which was the final straw that made me drop them totally for everything, they couldn't even answer basic questions, yet tried desperately tried to sell me an expensive policy that covered... just theft.     JUST THEFT ??? !!!   I live in a 2 story house, if the mother fucker wants to climb 25 feet to steal panels off my roof, well hell, he can have them! because Ill have him at room temp long before he can get the first one loose!!! you idiots.

The whole thing about electric cars being so dangerous is overblown bullshit the lamestream is  pushing and we need to push back !!!
If you leave ANY battery under SALT WATER for hours then ignore it for a week, of course it's going to eventually short out.  The car is totalled anyways even ICE once water gets inside it and stands.  just too much wiring and stuff that gets messed up.  sensors on the engine, the tranny get cooked... the interior will never be clean again... your car is totaled PERIOD.

Drop a wrench across a lead acid battery and tell me that is not a fire hazard?  Gas cars ignite and burn to the ground every single day yet you don't see the sheeple bleating about that now do you?

Don't let the insurance companies rope you on E vehicles, push back and EDUCATE them!!  This is the biggest problem we need to overcome is getting the adults to the table to have an honest discussion without the lies and BS.  Be real, both good AND  bad, so in the end we can get fair... at least as close as you can get to fair when it comes to insurance.

sorry for the rant but this something we need to stand solid and together on otherwise we all get thrown under the bus.

You should ask your agent about your car, your electric bike, your anything electric, make them tell you specifically what they will cover, what the limits are and ALL of that.  State farm is NOT keen on electric stuff, the agent might not know this or just want's your money so won't tell you the bad stuff.  Make him tell you what you will get back in a total loss situation.  If he can't, then find new insurance because that's telling you you will NOT be covered like you think.  If asking about an electric casualty makes them cancel you, it's better you find out NOW, so you can get real insurance instead of getting in a wreck and finding out you are not covered.

I would also ask,  lets say i get in a wreck and the vehicle is destroyed, how do YOU go about replacing it?  HOW do you figure it's value for the new one.  Make him SAY it, because if they later balk, or deny, you have a good standing to sue, because you were under the impression you were covered.  If they try to play it was a mistake tell them you are going to the 5 o clock news.  Often they'll  make an 'adjustment' rather than face the bad publicity.  I hope you never get in a situation like this but after dealing with insurance a few times, I have found the hard way, you have to keep yourself in a SOLID situation to push back on them, because they will try to get cute with you very often.

Unfortunately, this clip is pretty accurate when it comes to getting money FROM them when you need it.
