Damn few DC fast chargers around me. But lots of Tesla one's can it be charged somehow from them?

Right now, I don’t think so.

It can be charged from a L2 Tesla Destination Charger with an adapter, but not at the full DCFC speed. Tesla was forced to convert their stations to CCS in the Netherlands and some people think that might happen here in the next few years, especially if the company moves toward a model of chargers as a revenue source rather than just an incentive for people to buy Teslas.

I'm in Mendocino Co. Potter Valley, near Ukiah where there are 2 CCS, they seem to be the only ones in the county. I love the ride to the coast but no CCS there, ICE trip only. Tesla chargers everywhere, 98% unused.

Sometimes there are no mention of existing chargers on Plugshare. I added several there myself. Such as the CCS and J-plug at Silver Springs, NV.  I found that one myself and there was no mention on Plugshare, so I added it there myself. I did the same for a 120 VAC outlet in Organ Pipe Cactus Nat'l Mon in AZ since that was the only electricity around for miles on the USA side of the border.
 
So always be looking. Plugshare get its info. form us members.  Sometimes the chargers are in and working even before the "coming soon" which seems to sometimes mean it's never coming. I have also asked to have a few removed, as some were "coming soon" for more than 3 years with no construction even started.


I hear Tesla Superchargers will soon be open to all and by then, they will have a Telsa-Supercharger to CCS adapter. But I have no idea how "soon "that is. I know the Tesla app already has a selection for "Charge my non-Telsa". I need to update  my Tesla app, I almost never use it (I have the Tesla Fob and the card as a backup). I will use it a lot after that happens. I rarely chrge my Tela on the road. Three times since new in 2018. But I recharge my Energica on the road almost every trip I take on it. I have done a few 300-mile rides on my SS9-.


But I have noticed myself that there are Tesla Superchargers at prime locations where there is nothing else at all, such as at Lake Topaz, NV. A very important location. Having no CCS near there is the only reason I cannot ride my Energica to Bridgeport from Reno.


People may want to download the Tesla App and look for "charge my non-Telsa". I need to update mine too. In fact, I will do that in a few minutes after I post this.

Yes I did a road trip a year ago around that area on my SR/F. Out of curiosity i was looking at all the type of chargers over there and its dominated by ~6kW and HPWC tesla destination L2's. Any of the SR/* Zero's with a chargetank would be better bikes for that area. Also, all those twisties over there make for a great ride!

You can also check on all the official apps of ChargePoint, EvGo etc. I guess those should atleast be up to date..

Thanks for that link Don! I would buy this SS9 if that adaptor was available now (and affordable, it looks scary pricy!). My only reservation is it being nearly 100 pounds heavier and just a slightly larger battery. Maybe I should consider a charge tank if I can find a deal. I'm 20 mi. to town just to get to my closest charger.

If I could swing the SS9 I would then see if I could get $5k for my '13 12.5kW in primo condition.  I just might get the wife to swallow this.

The weight doesn't matter that much for efficiency except at city speeds. It's the aerodynamics that make the difference, which is relatively small between the two. I used to get 140-160 Wh/mi on my Zero SR with the giant CalSci windscreen in the Sac area and now I get 160-190 on the SS9. I'll also note that my efficiency up here has been terrible compared to the Bay Area, where I used to get 100-130 on the Zero from SF to San Jose and back.

The difference is that I would burn every last Joule on the Zero to avoid a charging stop that would take eons, whereas on the Energica I tend to stop when I get to 20% SoC because it only takes 5 minutes of charging time to get back up above 50%. Less relevant for your case, of course, but maybe not in the near future.

If you can charge at home, you want your road charge stations to be around fifty miles away from home.


Chargers close to home are useless. There are many chargers right here in Auburn. I have never used any of them. Too close to home to be useful.


You won't notice the weight. My SS9- is my favorite bike to ride of my ten, for most of my rides. Handles well even at very slow city speeds.


If you drop it, then you will probably notice the weight! Other than that, it's not much of an issue.


I have the charge tank on my Zero SR. It makes it top heavy, but I normally do not find that to be an issue expect for the one time I dropped the bike right at my driveway. I had to use a hydraulic lift to get it back up. See here.

I once dropped by 2018S with PT also. Fortunately  it was blocking a travel lane in a city and the person behind me came over to help me pick it up so they they could get me out of the way.    When the bike dropped it broke off the right side rider's foot peg, that was when I discovered that the passenger peg was a direct replacement for that part.

Tesla needs NO help selling their cars. They cannot keep up with demand as it is. I assumed we all knew that here, See here.


While that article is a year old, they now have even a longer wait. They are getting more & more behind. And from a company that has never advertised anywhere.


Perhaps this is why.
