Why no electric bike shootouts on youtube?
« on: March 09, 2020, 08:44:29 AM »

Back in the day when I used to buy a new sportbike every other year, I always looked forward to seeing the latest shootouts of the new bikes in places like cycleworld and motorcyclist magazines. So why are there no shootouts between electric bikes?
We have Zero, Energica, Harley and um Lightening (cough, cough).
I see alot of talk of specs and reviews, but no honest to goodness shootouts by owners or by the major publications. If anyone knows of one, please post it.
Thanks

Because the manufacturers generally paid for that media.

This is what I found putting a few search words in you tube.  Actually is the filmed at or near to the Energica dealer nearest me.  Only one electric and two gasoline but mostly about the electric.  Perhaps if folks with with the Harley and Zero approached this video producer?

My guess would be that it's due to the price and rarity of the bikes. For some of them I imagine it's not super easy to even get one to review, never mind 3 or 4 of them at the same time.

I would love to see one. Standards vs Sport bikes. SR/F vs Eva vs Live Wire vs Ego  vs Strike. All are in production, shouldn't be hard to get access to all of them. Its possible none of the major magazines have thought about it. Worth  contacting a few and see if one of them is interested.

Pretty much all of the reasons above.
But I feel there will be an epic show down presented on https://www.electric.motorcycles/  in the near future.

I think you can add to those reasons mentioned above that the various electric motorcycle manufacturers who would be supplying the bikes really don't want to be compared side-by-side as that would likely impact their sales depending upon the reviewer's comments.  And sales are so relatively low right now that any impact of being less than the winner of the shootout would result in a financial hit for both the factory and its retail dealers.  It just isn't worth the risk even if you know that you are the performance top dog.

Still, I agree that such a shootout would be fun and interesting to all of us here.  :)

Here is one:

Test Energica SS9 vs Zero SRF 2019

It's in German, however.
Automatic subtitles, automatically translated into English may give you some information, but also some headscratching as the two faulty 'automatic' techs add up their shortcomings ... :-\

How did you extract the subtitles to translate them?

Settings on the video player only has auto generated german under closed captions.

That is the case if you watch it in the forum here.  Did you try what I posted prior? Maybe have to click on german before auto translate. Click on the watch in youtube icon. Perhaps things are more limited on a smart phone.

Electric motorcycles compete against internal combustion more than against each other.

As it should be.
