It's not just the lithium and cobalt.  Those magnets in the electric motors are another issue as most of them are made from rare earths that are sourced from China.

I would love to analyze all the data they used to come up with those numbers. For example how much electricity is produce per gallon of oil at an oil-burning plant. I find it hard to believe that an ice vehicle is cleaner than an electric vehicle in Hawaii. But I'm far from an authority on the subject.
