Do I hear champagne corks popping at Zero, HD, etc.?

Personally, I'm disappointed. With their expertise and resources, Tesla plus Zero or Energica or Alta would be a win for us as consumers.

They should focus on building a sustainable car business first, and a sustainable workforce.

That's okay, we don't need bikes with gull-wing doors or a giant touchscreen or half-baked driver assists parading as "autopilot".

Tesla has done a lot for the image of EV's and making them desireable, but they're actual business practices are not helpful in building a good electric bike.

Would be cool if a US ebike maker got batteries from tesla, but that's about it.

Tesla cells are less dense than Farasis cells used by Zero and would result in a larger heavier battery pack with less range and peak performance.

Isn't Tesla claiming world-record energy density for their new 2170 cell? But they are cylindrical and don't pack together as well as pouch cells. Tesla actually uses the gaps to run water-cooling pipes through, so it actually works for them, but it would be bulkier than our batteries if packed together without the cooling pipes. I think it would still be lighter than ours, though.

They may have world record density for a thermally managed system.  Yeah they have wiggly channels every few columns of cells with circulating coolant.

Nah, our potting and mylar is nothing compared to steel cladding every cell plus pipes and liquid coolant.
