Stanford U trying to devleop non-exploding Li battery

I just heard on the radio news that Stanford University (they interviewed one of the researchers) is trying to develop a solid-state Lithium battery that will not have a tendency to explode.  They say the problem is the liquid in the batteries that can cause an explosion or fire.  They used an AI program to narrow the possible non-liquid chemical battery combinations from 10,000 to only 21 and will now start to test those lithium chemistries in the hope of finding a good solid combination that will be both safe and have sufficient power density to make future lithium batteries completely safe.  (Finally, what everyone really wants, a non-exploding hoverboard!  ;) )

Watch some YouTube videos about how hard it really is to manage the battery during the charging process.  Not a lot of tolerances during the process that can damage the battery.  The damaging effects over time can lead to batteries exploding as we have seen in some devices of late.  Would really be nice to see them come up with battery technology that makes them more safe for use and charging.
