Cheating Chinese EV manufacturers
« on: September 27, 2016, 07:56:27 PM »

I am sure that you will find this hard to believe ( ::)), but there are Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers who are cheating their government by applying for EV rebates without actually building vehicles, or inflated the number of EVs that they produced, according to an article written by Jon McDonald and published by the AP. The article says that several electric bus companies obtained $5 billion in subsidies from the Chinese government for building electric vehicles between 2009-2015. An audit by the government discovered that several electric bus companies had been claiming rebates for vehicles that they had never built and in one case the Gemsea Bus Manufacturing company of Suzhou made no electric buses at all, even though they collected $40 million in public money.   :o

The Chinese government says that they will now be keeping closer tabs on electric vehicle manufacturers who claim EV rebates (which can reach up to $76,000 per bus and $7,500 per car built).  I guess even the Chinese government has to watch their pocketbook when dealing with Chinese manufacturing companies.

There was also a comment in the article regarding some Chinese companies just plucking parts off of the shelf made by other companies and assembling them into existing chassis and then applying for rebates without actually performing any design work or advancing the technology, which was one of the original concepts behind the rebates.  :(

Human nature I'm afraid. I guess the Chinese government has a reputation for not being very efficient, which makes it people to take the Mickey.
