Hey guys. I've been lurking a bit for a week or so. I finally took a 2014 Zero S for a test ride and I'm sold on it. I want to order a 2016, but Coleman Powersports is dropping Zero from their inventory. They will no longer be a Zero dealership.

I can still grab one from Richmond, 90 minutes away on the highway. But how important is having a local dealership for these bikes? Can I just hook 'em up to my cell phone and let Zero do it remotely?

I'm about 65-85 miles from my trio of dealers.  (Schlossmann's, Pro Motorsports & Randy's Cycle)

My original dealer temporarily fell away from Zero after my sale and the switch between dealerships for service was not a problem at all.

Zero remote support can be useful for diagnosis, but if the problem is "HARD" (not solved by software update) it is going into a shop anyway.

So you have to put in the back of a truck one way... putting it on a truck for the trip back is little different.

Yeah, my dealer gave up on Zero too. My nearest dealer is now 155 miles away, so if it dies, I have to stump up several hundred bucks for the tow truck. Yay.

This is encouraging. My current shop of choice isn't a Zero dealership and I was planning on using them for tires & brakes anyway.

Ouch. Here's hoping that's not going to happen. I suppose I'm going to have to ask around to see who has a bike trailer available. I have lots of friends with trucks already. Although the bike is light enough it shouldn't be too hard to just put it in the back of a pickup.

They quoted me $13K + change out the door for the 2014 S I rode. That's not much of a discount for a bike that will be 2 years old when I ride it off the lot. And given my daily commute situation and natural paranoia, I want the charge tank. So... 2016.

buddy bought a 2015 S for $11,500 just the other day. not sure where you are at but i would not pay that price.

Dang. Coleman's service department has had my new Zero since November. Didn't realize they were dropping the line until I just read your post. I know they've had frustrations dealing with Zero - slow response with remote diagnosis and shipping of parts. I've called them an average of once per week for status updates since November and they are always waiting on Zero for something.

When the Zero bikes work, they are wonderful. When they don't, in my experience you must have a lot of patience for Zero to work with the dealer to fix. Prior to my 2015 DS (which I've only ridden one day!) I've owned a 2012 DS which also required service for a bad motor. The 2012 was fixed in 5 weeks and it was the same story of the dealer waiting on Zero to make progress during that time.

Now that Coleman is no longer a dealer I'll have to look for another one "close by". There's one in Charlotte, NC. Didn't realize there was one in Richmond, which is about the same distance from me in Blacksburg. Who is the Richmond dealer?

Jerome the Zero web page says the Richmond dealer is "Scoot Richmond" but they are showing a Salem VA dealer called "Frontline Eurosports" would be much closer than RIC. This Salem dealer may be new and might be why Coleman dropped out.

I'm not sure Zero removes ex-dealers from it's dealer locator database. Frontline dropped Zero over 3 years ago.

I went to Frontline's webpage and they have a 2015 DS and a 2016 FX for sale so they seem to still be a dealer. As a matter of fact I called them and the lady said (in a very sweet southern accent) "yes sir they send us a few now and then would you like to talk to Nate?" I said no ma'am just checking. So they're much closer than Ricmond.  I have a lot of time on my hands

To be fair, the salesman at Coleman's didn't know they were dropping Zero until he went to talk to his manager about price quotes on a 2016. This is pretty recent information for everyone, it would appear. And if you're ever on campus in Blacksburg, do a donut on upper quad for me. I escaped in '96.

Yes and no. Yes in that the dealership in Richmond is Scoot Richmond. In fact, I put down my deposit for a 2016 S yesterday. No in that Coleman's told me the reason for dropping Zero is because Victory is getting into the eBike scene with their acquisition of Brammo. Coleman's is very much into Victory Motorcycles and now that Victory has a model, they can simplify their supply/knowledge chain. Also, the Victory option is more expensive and I got the impression that the profit margin was higher. Sales dude thought the new Victory bike was neat, but didn't understand why you would want gears on an electric motorcycle. There's no feedback from the exhaust note to tell you when to shift gears.

Thanks for the info Semper. After seeing your post I checked Coleman's website and saw they had Victory as a brand, but didn't see any of their electric bikes for sale yet. Guess they will be showing up there soon. I did wonder if that was the reason they dropped Zero. Thanks for confirming.

The Google reviews of Scoot Richmond look very positive. Congrats on your 2016 S purchase!

Since I don't have my 2015 DS back yet from Coleman, I'll just have to eat a Carol Lee donut on the upper quad in your honor instead of doing a donut.

It's coming! Paperwork arrived today. The bike should hit the dealership next week. They will deliver to bike to me in early March.

Alas, the charge tank won't be installed. It's... not quite ready, apparently.
