There were over 30 250s in the class and me, on my 2012 Zero S ZF6. It was a BLAST! Hollywood Electrics hooked me up with a Sevcon Size 6 upgrade to make me accelerate way faster, Avon
http://www.avonmotorsport.com/ hooked me up with new race tires to give me better grip, and Nexx sized me for my next helmet! I also froze my butt off in the cold wintery desert with lows of 40 degrees (F) at night.
I was surprised to find that my new tires were so different from the Zero stock tires I am used to riding on, I had to use about 7 less pounds of air in the rear to get the bike feeling just right, and once I figured that out... omg for the first time I used up the WHOLE tire! ( well almost, I think there was like a millimeter of chicken strip left) It is amazing what a real race tire will do for your confidence out there. I also dropped (?) my front forks about 5mm ( 5mm is now above the clamp ) to get Foxie to turn into corners much quicker.
I am working on getting some of the video together now, because I had an epic battle with one particular bike the first day where I really showed how not having gears can be advantageous by accelerating all the way into a quick chicane to the point that I was 100% positive I was going off the track into the fence, but with a fist full of break a little pucker of my sphincters and a SUPER late MEGA hard lean, I was able to stay on the track just as the 250 started to go to my inside and pass me, but my tactic worked. They had slowed down hard downshifting late and breaking hard like me. I slammed the bike into full lean and twisted the throttle all the way rocketing right in front of them nearly hitting the goPro on the front of their bike with my helmet.
We later had a battle into the most dangerous corner at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway
http://goracecvr.com/ where the 250 passed me on a straightaway and tried to out break me going into the off camber decreasing radius up and down hill 3 turn chicane, but again, I showed what a benefit no transmission can be making up a lot of ground into the first left hander and accelerating up the hill to the inside for the following tight and blind right corner. I showed tire right at the entry of the corner pushing the other rider out wide which actually caused another rider to low-side from the sudden change in everyone's racing lines.
In the end I won the battle, too bad we had two red flags in the race though.
