not really madness. They're a series, then the last part is the model number and current.

Makes sense when you dig into each manual a bit.

Curtis 1236 is a small series of curtis AC controller. There is a 6301 which is 300A and 72V, there is a 6501 which is 550A and 48V.
Curtis 1238 is a large series of curtis AC controller. There is a 6501 (550A 72V), 7501 (550A 96V) and a 7601 (650A 96V).

Likewise, can you provide an example they don't do this? I'm curious.

Well how the heck do you get that out of 1236?  I guess I am just too simple minded, lol.  All I am saying is that Alltrax does this:

Model: AXE4834

AXE = programmable

48 means 48 volts

3 means 300 amps

4 means form factor or something like that

see this stuff makes sense to me, you can easily make out what a AXE7234 is

AXE = programmable, 72 volts, 3 = 300 amps, 4 some size of the heat sync vs another

Don't get me wrong I don't own Alltrax stock or nothin' and I would love to buy a Curtis but I am not going to take a night class at a JC just to learn their model numbers, lol plus I don't want to drop $750 bones on their proprietary programmer thingie, but that's another thread/post

I got that out of the manual.......all ya gotta do is read the manual, it tells you within the first 10 pages what they are.

If you want DC, I wouldn't go curtis, and from what I know, none of the DC series/PM controllers are programmable, only sepex and AC Induction.

That's my point, you don't got the manual until you buy one, and 10 pages to tell you what Alltrax does in 7 digits, come on man, lol

thank you for responding, I was just making a point that sometimes companies/manufacturers do things the hard way, it's like Ford using the "Z" to signify Mustang parts, go figure, lol

Still not entirely correct...... All the manuals are available online, through the distributor or on Curtis's website..... sorry it's not as "simple" as you'd like it, but it never hurts to do a little google search.

and just about every manufacturer does it with part numbers..... nothing new.
