BRD announces new supermoto EV
« on: August 22, 2011, 08:52:29 PM »

A company called BRD has announced a rather impressive EV supermoto electric vehicle. They are claiming speeds up to 100 mph and a range of 50 miles from their 5.2 kWh battery. They are hoping that police departments will find their "RedShift" brand of EVs perfect for urban patrol duty. Unfortunately, there is no information regarding price, availability or hard specifications.

Here is a link to a Two Wheels blog that provides a lot of photos of the RedShift supermoto EV, including many closeups of the bike and some of their shop. I can't seem to find any photos of the bike's motor though.

City Bike magazine (a monthly San Francisco publication) says that BRD has just announced the retail prices for their three models. The motocrosser goes for $14,995, the SM sells for $15,495 and their law enforcement version has no published price.

The magazine article says:  "BRD, which launched just a few months ago held off from announcing pricing or taking orders until the company figured out how to get performance up to the level of a 250cc motorcrosser, with a 50-mile range. The guys there must have done it, as they now offer three models......."

That statement seems to imply that BRD is currently taking orders for their motorcycles. You might want to check out their website.

Can I suggest that we start a new category for this manufacturer? It looks like probably the most exciting brand to be launched to date.
