Hi, I'm new here! Long time (ago) EV owner
« on: May 05, 2011, 01:01:41 PM »

I am about a week away from purchasing a 2009 Zero X.  I'm told it has a new battery and upgraded motor as well as the upgraded rear shock.  I'm purchasing it for $3800 and apparentlyit hasn't been used very much.  The guy who I'm buying it from has three Zero bikes.  I really like the DS, but the X is the right price for me!

I live on the north shore of Kauai in Hawaii and travel 13 miles to and from work on most days and some days 30 miles round trip with an opportunity to charge up inbetween but hope to not have to.  I plan to ride most of the time and have my car as a backup.

A little back story for me....I built two electric cars in High School, the first starting at 15.  I intended to become an Automotive Engineer and design electric vehicles.  After starting college in Michigan at Kettering University, I found out that 40 degrees in June is depressing.  I will always be passionate about green transportation and love motorcycles.  My father is a former pro motorcycle racer and having grown up around two wheeled machines, riding an electric bike is so awesome for me.  On a side note, my father has a Brammo Empulse 12.0 on order as well.

I can't wait to start playing with my X and sharing my experiences and whatnot on here.

I am thinking of finding a lightweight on board trickle charger if at all possible or maybe getting a second charger, depending on how much the price varies.  While I'm on the subject, does Zero's batteries require a special charger or will any 48v charger do?

It rains quite a bit here, so I was considering a windscreen, maybe even something to help the aerodynamics a bit.  Thoughts?

Welcome to the forum! That is a great price on the Zero. Looking forward to hearing how you like it.

I absolutely love the torque!  Only have about 30 minutes of riding on it so far.  Took a friend for a quick ride on the back, and didn't feel the increase in weight at all.  I feel like it tops out rather quickly, so I think a sprocket change is in order.

Went to the beach near my house and got bombarded with people wanting to know about it.
