Here is more information about BMW’s new e-scooter, including photos of its guts and two videos showing the scooter on the road and also showing a diagram of how the power train works. The last photo in the “gallery section” (first link below) shows the mechanical components and labels them. The second link contains the two videos.

That paint job might be camouflage, but I suspect someone at the factory is trying to be cute and has gone a little overboard, in my opinion.

It is starting to look more and more like BMW will have their e-scooter on the market late this year. My guess is that it would be sold in Europe for a year or two before it hits North America, based upon their previous marketing history for completely new models.

BMW has finally shown their latest e-scooter concept version at the Frankfurt motorcycle show. The scooter looks much different than the last dazzle-camouflaged version that was shown being tested this summer. Apparently, BMW let the designers pen the official press release, as it contains a lot of information about the styling and design and not too much about technical specifications, other than what we already know. Operating voltage is above 60 volts, range is 60 miles and the scooter is claimed to be able to be charged up from the typical home wall outlet and be fully recharged in only 3 hours.  It is not clear to me from the press release if this is just another design study or an actual  production vehicle.

Here is another report about the BMW e-scooter, which contains a video showing a girl and another (perhaps more informative) short video featuring David Robb, BMW's chief motorcycle designer, explaining the features of their new electric motor scooter. I found it interesting that they have installed a fan, just like Zero, to cool the motor. But they made their fan a lot cuter than than the one on the Zero. See it here:

seems to be pretty clearly vapourware.

Giveaways are things like the cute fan that would fill with road grime and break, lack of numberplate mounts, lack of indicators, rear view cameras and the clincher is the name "concept".

It claims all sorts of things but being purely imagination it doesn't have to actually *do* any of them.

I've never understood the "Concept" vehicle as a concept...  Add it to the thousands of other things that I don't understand about the motor vehicle industry. 

No that's not true.  I do understand them all, they're explained by the fact that vehicles are not designed for transport.  They're designed the same way fishermen design lures.  They're no more supposed to be enjoyable for the user than lures are supposed to be enjoyable for the fish.  They're designed to trick people into signing on the bottom line in the dealers just like lures trick fish into biting.  *Nothing more*.

where is the cute scooter in the Mini Cooper designed style ? I would have bought one like that -- but not this "MAXXXI" something.

sorry - just my opinion I guess.

with EVs we can go for totally different designs.

If you are thinking that the paint job is ugly, you are right. But, it is very much like the "dazzle" camouflage paint job used on German warships during WWI.  So maybe the reason it is so ugly is that BMW doesn't want you to see it as they test it to see if it actually works.  This is a better idea than they do with many of their other new motorcycle models, where they give it to the customer to test and then fix it at the dealer when the "unit" gets towed in after a breakdown.   

As far as the e-scooter being large, well it is German and not Italian, plus they need a lot of room in which to stuff batteries to get decent range and performance.
