Bob Lutz invests in Current Motors
« on: January 14, 2011, 04:38:43 AM »

A report by Motorcycle.com says that retired GM vice-chairman, Bob Lutz, is investing $1.5 million in Current Motors, a startup company making freeway-legal motor scooters. Of more interest to me is Current Motors plans to offer a $2000 discount to early adopters of their scooters and their plan to task them with real-world ownership feedback to the company. (Public road testing I guess, something more than one motorcycle company already engages in.)

Yeah, saw that early adopter discount. Very cool.

Sound like Lutz has been an investor since early 2010 at least based on this interview with Peter Scott, Current Motor president (30 Nov 2010)...

I plan on writing something on http://Plugbike.com soon about it.

I took some notes from the video above if you don't have time to watch it...

<400k investment to build first scooter
Capital efficient and fast to market

Main asset is Control systems for battery life and charge time along with Vehicle Control Unit that ties all electronics together.

Scooters have reverse, regen

Scott believes ev industry should adopt “LA Drive Cycle” for range numbers.
Starts, stops, average speeds, etc

Low total cost of ownership, pay back premium in one year

January 2010 was first delivery

6 bikes sold as of September 2010
Feedback
-   quiet
-   fast and quick acceleration

Hub motor

Not sure who customers will be:
They think it will be...

However...
First 6 customers were professionals aged 45 – 55 years old

Dealer base:

Hired a dealer guy to develop the channel. Not sure if it will be traditional, web or both or other
