According to an article in the December 2010 issue of Motorcycle Consumer News on page 10, "World Motorcycling" section, the E-Tracer has won $2.5 million in the Tandem Division of the Progressive Insurance sponsored Automotive X-Prize, designed to find the fuel-efficient vehicles of tomorrow. The Li-ion Wave II side-by-side two seater also won $2.5 million in its class.

The E-Tracer, weighs 1436 pounds, has a top speed of 150 mph, a range of 200 miles and a 0-60 time of less than 7 seconds. Its battery and motor are the work of AC Propulsion of San Dimas, CA, which gave it the equivalent fuel efficiency of 102.5 mpg.

The Wave II weighs 2200 pounds and achieved the equivalent of 187 mpg.

The winners qualify for US Department of Energy grants, which will help to prepare them for commercial production. However, the E-Tracer is already in production and can be ordered right now.

Not only has a Tracer won a mileage award but one has recently crashed into a bicyclist. Spectators said that it was rolling fast and quiet before it hit the slow and quiet bicyclist. Read about it and see the crash photos here:
