flat roof, even then tilt the thing about 15 degrees, it's a middle spot to catch the sun all times of the year but more importantly let the water drain off, otherwise it pools and when it dries, the pollen etc cakes and hardens onto the panels really dropping their efficiency.
if you want battery backup, go that route, if you are in north florida i can get you a good deal on new lith batteries,  i say north fl because we could possibly meet up or you could go get .vs. shipping which kills the 'deal'.   otherwise something like the enphase inverter makes it a quick simple install and forget about it item.

ive been doing solar for well shit. 40 years now so have learned a thing or two over that time.

Good rant up there man, I hear ya.

Every time those solar salespeople hit me up either at my front door or in Home Depot my default reply is:

"Unless the installer is going to mount every individual panel at 184 degrees south and 25.6 degrees off horizontal, we're done here."

Then they stare at me like I've got a dick on my forehead.   ;D 8)

I see those salespeople at Costco. What I do is to ask them if they have any free samples to eat.  ;)

what really burnt me was i had one over to give me an estimate on something.  i had them do a very modest install, just so i could prove it was by code and 'legal' bla bla, then add the rest myself later and not have to jump through the hoops and bs.  offered me an insane price, i said thank you ill call you back later.   got the puppydog eyes as the salesman walked away.  thru the next 4 or 5 days several calls, well you going to sign the contract we can do it now, bla, i said nope, not at that price, i shopped around, you guys are WAY too expensive.  immediately, well what did the other guy offer you, i said, oh im pretty sure you know what their prices are.  That was followed by, well they will screw you, they'll do this wrong, that wrong, short  change you here bla bla.  i just said, that's funny, because that's exactly what they said you are going to do to me and hung up.

About a week later, another call, hi, im the owner of the company and i can offer you this for like 40 percent cheaper than original offer. At which point i said, so you just tried to fuck me for 12 grand?  he says, well everyone's got to eat, you know that.  I said yah i get it but you don't have to order a lobster and filet every time it's my turn to pay, you couldn't order a burger or meat loaf just once??, especially since im a return customer?  don't call me back.  i then proceeded to leave a google review with exactly how they were screwing people step by step, especially the big trap, the financing, and alternatives.... from what i hear they cursed me for months after that  8)

if you get solar, do your homework and stay away from people going door to door or trying to used car salesman you into signing the contract that day.

Solar is great on a house, the real estate is already spoken for and it's double use really and makes a ton of sense in that use scenario.
