So, went to my bike parked in front of my house and the ignition had been effed with and was completely ruined/non functional. Was going to get it towed to the local dealer, but it was Saturday after 5pm so they were closed and don't open until Tuesday. The ignition on these bikes (2022 FXE) look pretty basic/ 4 wires. Something similar happened to my KTM where some crackhead ( I assume, since it looks like they went at the ignition with a hammer, ah, of the joys of living in the city (SF,CA)) ruined the ignition cylinder. KTM wanted like $300 for a very basic ignition. It is a 2 wire on/off ignition switch. I replaced it with a hidden marine grade on off switch, and I guess this was enough to confuse the casual thief as that bike was never effed with again. When I sold it to the new buyer I explained my reasoning and the new buyer was ok with my logic. I don't want to go that basic with this, and the ignition for the FXE is pretty cheap at $90. But I don't want to keep having this situation.  I was thinking of putting a keyless fob type system on it and eliminate the key. Looking for a wiring diagram to identify what the 4 wires going to the ignition are. And also curious if anyone else has tried this and their experiences. I have a Ducati Mutlistrada and a 2016 BMW 1200GSA that have keyless systems from the factory and they have not been effed with.

I have only had my FXE for a few weeks but so far I am loving it. Already looking at a topcase quickcharger system for extending the daily range and relieving a bit of range anxiety :-D. Already eyeing a bigger zero with longer range in addition to the FXE (not replacing, since it is the perfect weapon for around town riding and always puts a grin on my face)

Any idea, comments, links would be very appreciated. I seem to be search challenged because I can't seem to get relevent results with I search the site.

I'm not going to post how to make a universal gen 2 Zero key but you pretty much already know how it's done. What I would recommend doing is if you put the ignition on some sort of toggle or power switch that you put it somewhere less conspicuous. Sure, someone may try to drill into your ignition but if you've disabled it and moved it somewhere else out of sight then it's a lot harder for them to find it. I would recommend waterproof switches whatever you do. At one point I made my ignition a lamp pull cord so that I could tell people I had the first pull-start electric motorcycle in the world. Which technically I probably had.

Keyless fobs, can be problematic for a number of other issues, so hiding a switch .vs. one of those keyfobbie things is probably a much better option.

Anyone who wants the bike will know to cut the wires and touch this one and that one and it's active, you won't stop them, but the casual crackhead that's an easier fix sort of.

i can't remember the brand, ill have to look later but someone sells like a crypto lock they call it, it's basically a small pin pad you punch in your 3 or 4 digit code and it unlocks the bike. Very similar to the bypass code on the energica's.  Something like that might be a bit stronger security than a switch that's not so hidden up in a fairing or somewhere.  ive seen some that are voice activated too, you train to your voice and you lock / unlock your bike by speaking.  imo, given the fits my cardo unit gives me sometimes just trying to play a simple fucking song, not sure that's the best route either imo.

The thing with the default ignition is it also doubles as your steering lock, so presumably you're getting rid of that too, If you haven't already you're going to want some decent disc locks front and rear otherwise you're bike is easily walked off with using just a skateboard (if you only lock one wheel). You'll also want to check the terms of your insurance, mine for example requires at least two forms of lock (so steering lock and disc lock) and is invalid if I happen to leave the key in the ignition, I'd imagine they wouldn't be happy with a push button one just in case someone didn't figure out where it was located.

Good point on the steering lock. Right now I'm just going to replace with the oem ignition since they have it in stock at the local Zero Dealer, and that will get me back on the road sooner. I do remember seeing a video on youtube with someone installing a keyless on a SR/S. Can't seem to find it now but that might be good as a secondary anti-theft.
