Flynn, the 2 stroke fuel, is just basically 2.5 oz of oil thrown into a gallon of gasoline and mixed up.  You can get the high dollar yamalube etc stuff to use or just regular motor oil in a pinch works too.   It'd probably be a lot cheaper for you to buy the oil and mix it yourself rather than buy premix fuel, they'll charge you an arm and a leg for that favor.  Worst case if you throw the gas into a regular vehicle, oh she gonna smoke a bit but otherwise should not harm it, and a good flush afterwards with regular gas will leave things just fine.

I’ll keep that in mind, thanks! I don’t actually have the moped running yet, and I’ll probably only ride it a few miles a week, so even if I’m overpaying for fuel, I’d probably only go through a couple of gallons per year. I still have the Yamaha for longer trips, this will be mostly for when I don’t feel like pedaling to work or to accompany my wife while she learns to ride the 150cc scooter around the neighborhood. Mostly, it was cheap and I’ve always been curious about those little things. Don’t know if I’ll keep it once it’s running or just have a little fun and flip it to the next buyer.

My first car was a 1958 DKW Junior that was propelled (slowly) by a 27 hp, 3-cylinder, two-stroke engine. Every time I would stop for gas when the tank ran low, I would first add a pint of Chevron two-stroke oil and then add 5 gallons of gas to refill the fuel tank. Ah, the good old days before automatic oil injection was a feature on automobiles powered by two-stroke engines.

The advantage of “hardware store” premix is it’s likely ethanol free.
