YES... a 450km range ZERO exist on earth in 2025!! at least ONE

Hello guys, Long time posting here. I wanted to share with you my project I was planning since 4 years that required "a range extender" If I can call it

Since 2021 I was planning a trip to the 53th parallel at the James Bay in the North of Quebec to visit the large hydro plan installations.
This is a 4000 km trip total in 11 days covering between 500 to 780km per driving day.

One critical part is the stretch of 381km with absoluty NOTHINg except road , trees and triillions moskitos!!. This portion of the riad has a NEMO of 190km, meaning there is 190km between you and the closest sign of human life.

Guess what? I MADE IT !!!

in order to be able to make this trip I had to have at least 381km range plus extra for safety to cover the 381km section with nothing, no electricity, no human life!

I got my hand on some ZF17.3 battery that had each one BCB module failed so I made one full battery with the two working one. one is 2021 and the second is 2022 and their capacity is with in 0.1%.

That trip was AWSOME!!! my longest trip so far and now this sinply open a new way of travelling with up to 450km range!!!
The magic is that this is made with range extender that I can remove and get the origianl ZERO in less than 5 minutes.

But YES it was ALOT of work!! and I had to engineer it carefully to remain safe and reliable because where i went, there was very limited emergency $ervice and I needed satellyte phone for communications!!  so not margin for a fail!!

I would absolutely love to see more details on that, it looks awesome. Such a great idea, I love the lightness of my 7.2 and most of the time it's more than enough, but if I could just slap on a couple panniers and double my range when needed that would be the ideal solution. Also bonus points for making use of an otherwise dead battery that probably would have ended up in the dump.

no, both work in parallel and dshare the current during discharge and recharge and It is hapenning with fully protected BMS and safety!

thats very good!
so when the main goes out you plug them in or do you plug all 3 in at once, if you can do that all 3 at once you might eek a few extra miles out of them via C - rate.

Wow, you did that and it even looks practically stock!

It looks like 17.5 km/kWh and average 60 Wh/km. What average speed did you travel? How much charge did you have at the end?

Did you split up a ZF17.3 into two, one for each Pelican case?

I'm guessing the pannier setup adds about 50 kg total. Does this affect the ride much, and did you have to stiffen the suspension?

That takes guts to head out solo on the isolated road. Do you use the new T-Mobile + Starlink for sat phone?

Personally, I don't travel through deserts, but I do like to occasionally carry a suitcase full of chargers (rather than batteries).
In short, what I'd be interested in is an explanation of how to secure these suitcases so that they can be removed in 5 minutes.

gt, if you look at how the experia's suitcases are mounted on the side of the thing, that'd give you a very nice starter on how to do that.
 those pop right on and off.
