looking at his brake pedal gave me an idea.
it looks like a frame slider.
put one of those on, or the knubs you screw in, in the back to heft the bike up to change wheels etc.  screw one of those on, it should be minimalist and out of the way yet grab you a nub to hook you foot on and step when you need rear brake for real and not just regen.

Thanks for all the input. Since there’s no aftermarket solution for a complete rearset, my best option seems to be a shorter brake peg. It’ll be interesting to see whether the bike, with that modification, will pass the periodic vehicle inspection next year.

just keep the old one and put it on for the inspection, because if it does fail, now you have to go through all the bullshit to get it rectified, paid for the inspection again, bla bla, and now the bike is 'tagged'  it comes up next year, oh THAT one had issues last year, check it real good.  I wish i would have saved the nub from when i busted mine off id ship it to you.

Are you from Germany?
I did some research on brake pedal laws in usa and a few other countries.
It seems for the most part, there is no law on the minimum length of the pedal, just it be readily accessable, and there are performance mandates, but nothing on length / size etc.

You should be safe but still the oem for inspections will probably be best, as some places can get really quirky on things, why give them something to get snooty over?

I'm based in Switzerland. The legal situation is quite similar to Germany—fairly rigid, in fact. Aftermarket parts that are safety-relevant need to be approved. However, since there are so few Energicas in my country, no inspector is likely to recognize the OEM parts. So if the solution looks solid and well-built, chances are the bike will pass. Still, it might be a good idea to mount the original peg for the inspection.

 I just received confirmation from the Swiss Energica importer that firmware version 43 also supports a warning message for a blocked rear brake on the Ribelle and SS9.

Yes, I noticed it on my Experia with "0.43"...I was slowly going down a long hill with some loose gravel covering it....so I was using the rear brake so I wouldn't tuck the front on the gravel.....the rear brake warning came on (after ~10 seconds I guess)....I'd not seen it before that.
