Electric Ford goes out of control
« on: August 15, 2025, 07:11:52 AM »

This is just crazy, something seems to be missing to this story. Supposedly a Ford went out of control, the steering locked and it was at full throttle and wouldn't shut off.

Could this be a much better AI fake?  the guy filming it jumps into the other lane at the end far too quickly imo, id be very worried about other traffic in that instance.  seemed to keep it in frame and was able to stop awful darn fast too.  The driver who impacted didn't see the filmer going way slow and saying WTF and increasing their attention to situation?  Something don't seem right, but either way.

just what we need, more reason for people to hate on bikes / cars / anything electric if it is true.

for those who drive electric 4 wheelers, i know some don't have keys, but isn't there some sort of kill switch on them like with bikes?  If not and if this is true, then maybe there needs to be.

If it's a fake it's very well done, there are many small details that are perfect and I didn't spot any flaws. It turns so quickly at the end because the front right wheel is locked up. What I don't get is it detects it's been in an impact at the end and cuts the drive and yet it running into the concrete wall didn't trigger any safety mechanism. I would also imagine that doing something like holding the brakes, attempting to engage the parking break, or holding the start stop/power button would have some effect. Also it's going to have safety features like lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control with automatic breaking so all of that must have failed too. It all just seems too unlikely, like a perfect storm of things fucking up and perhaps an incompetent driver.

What i was implying is the guy filming stopped VERY fast and was doing a very good job of both driving, keeping the camera angle almost perfect the whole time, and then when it cuts in front of him, keeping it in frame almost perfectly, and stopping very fast, almost too perfectly fast, while holding a camera.  Didn't really hear any of 'his' noises in the car either.  The angle did not look like it was a passenger filming and if it was, for there to be no chatter between them???

There also does not seem to be much follow up on it either.  It's been some hours now so maybe ill look again but, no other channels covering this really if it was true.  You would think something like this would be all over the news, they seem to make the news when they catch fire, this guy went well above and beyond that!   Also the name of the tictard account that's a cartoon person ain't it, relevant or not, this one is on the line here.

If it does turn out to be fake or augmented, it was very well done as you said, and just another warning to ALL of us, you can't believe what you see anymore unless it's with your own two eyes, and hell with virtual glasses coming on line, even that may be spoofed in a few years.

then again it could be some clown lying about it, and it's something different happening.  Ill go see if i can dig up any more info on it.

Well they added some content, it was fake it seems.
Seems this was a real incident, but it wasn't what it was said to be.  Guy was drunk / drugged, and the event happened somewhere else from where the op said it did.  So event real, details claimed about it fake.

still, not many people are going to be smart enough, or responsible enough, (read as not lazy)  to do some research and instead will see it and go wow, electric sucks, ill never get one, and go blissfully on their lives with bad info.  So, crap like this hurts the entire industry.

apparently, the post was from a company that claims to make viral / high volume videos for a fee for people, if THAT is even true.... if so, Ford should sue the living shit out of them for defamation, and put them in prison.  It's hard enough today to find the truth about things to make informed decisions without all the garbage noise out there.

NOT AI but still, the warning stands, do NOT believe what you see, or what you are told you are seeing, it probably is all cherry picked bs twisted to a narrative, or just flat out lies for clicks.

That is for sure! I can hardly wait for the next election cycle to see all of the AI generated fake videos. Companies that make these things, or sell the programs to do so, are going to make a bundle.  >:( Unfortunately, fake videos about electric vehicles are going to be the least of our problems.  :'(

Especially when you have a generation or two of voting age, but too lazy to spend more than 20 second's on anything, and just blindly believe any shit spewed at them via AI, and a generation or two of Social Security age, who don't know any better, and are just going to blindly believe, because it looked real.

The best thing at this point that everyone can do is imagine that the entire internet has just turned into the National Enquirer.  It's not that people just STARTED lying to you in the news, that's been going on for a century or more, but more it's  1. you have the ability to see it now, and 2. they have the ability to do so much better now.

besides,  it's got electrolytes.

This video may be a scam, but there are valid concerns with cars that have “self-driving” features (which is almost all of them, these days). You’re really entrusting your life to the companies who put these software packages together. Some people choose to believe that this kind of thing can only happen with EVs, but any modern car can potentially have an electronic freak-out and swerve or slam on the brakes. Even my wife’s Hyundai, which only has the minor-league version of these features, treats my pedal inputs as a mere suggestion to maybe accelerate someday if the EPA passes a resolution saying it’s okay. It’s sluggish to the point of actually being dangerous on the highway, and when I push hard enough to override it, it suddenly drops 3 gears and revs to the moon, probably causing 2x or 3x the emissions. My whole life, I always wanted the newest, most advanced tech, but these days I find myself longing for 60s-era technology, just so my safety doesn’t depend on whether a company was cutting corners to meet a software shipping deadline.

At least motorcycles are relatively safe from self-steering features for the foreseeable future, and I can’t imagine any 2-wheeled buyer wanting such a thing.

You are preaching to the choir there.  This whole mesh / net / automation thing is going to be the death of us.
Ive brought up similar concerns at the power plant, about certain 'events' that could very easily happen because of it, that would kill the grid very quickly, and for that i was put on a week of paid leave, and had a visit by the men with dark glasses and brief cases and told to keep my mouth shut, as if the enemy doesn't already know this exploit.  They know the dangers, but pretend they are not there because of the money it would cost to fix it.  Money spent means no fat bonus at the end of the year...besides, i just need to do 2 more years, then i retire with my big fat pension and this becomes the next schmucks problem!! is the prevailing mentality.

What happens when your Chevy vehicles all with onstar... get hacked and it sends out a global 'kill' command to stop all the engines because they been reported all as stolen.  They can open your doors for you if you lock your keys in, what else can they do, we already know but want to play stupid and 'trust the technology'.  yah,  id love my 78 chevy back with all the room under the hood that you can stand in there with the engine to work on stuff and it's not packed with so much shit that you have no idea what it does, that a dropped dime would never hit the ground, but would be trapped between the knibbly pin actuater, and the kanuten valve dyno modulator  :o  :(

oh and the emp scare,  yes a big one can wipe out all electronics,  not saying it WILL ...just that it can... in other words, yes some stuff very well will survive, what will?  roll the dice, but it's just easier to say all of it, that way grandma lets me pass laws to seize more control.

Aaron

ps, you may not be steering by wire but many have throttle by wire... will you be fast enough to hit the kill switch though and shut it down when it does floor??

It was near my house and not fake at all. According to the CHP, the car was not self-driving, and the guy in the car was arrested for DUI.

https://www.facebook.com/chp/posts/driver-arrested-for-dui-after-commute-hour-crashthis-incident-occurred-in-san-ca/1174509644715098/

The car is throttle by wire, brake by wire, emergency brake by wire, and the steering is heavily augmented. It could still be that one or more computers did lock up. It would be a shame if the investigation stops without having an expert examine the car's computers and black box.

so did the car truly lock up or was the tard just drunk / stoned off his ass and said it did?

Even the cop reply said dui charge but didn't go into details of if the car was truly out of control with a mind of it's own.
the police implied it was not in any sort of 'automatic' even malfunctioning mode.  If the car WAS malfunctioning, even dui they'd have mentioned that as well.  Doesn't seem to be any malfunction of the car, just the tardspooge NOT driving it.

why investigate if none of the systems was locked up and it was a poor attempt at just another drunk trying to get out of the mess?

Even IF they investigated, who is capable OF investigating and knowing this stuff.... the car manu, oh yah they will come right out and say they caused it so they can get sued too.

Throughout the extensive video, it's not obvious that the driver is entirely at fault, as is clear from many of the video comments. CHP only said the car was not driving autonomously, then appears to have let the car off the hook completely without mention of further investigation that took place or should take place. CHP also glaringly omits the type and extent of DUI which could account for such extreme behavior. In an event of this magnitude and cost, the black box data should be subpoenaed and/or reviewed by the NHTSA. It might even be possible that no data was recorded if the computer was horked. Even if the results aren't public information, the public should hear what investigation was done.
