Am I going nuts?
« on: June 12, 2025, 12:23:47 AM »

Or am I am only going by the formula of how many motorcycles we should own, "N+1" where "N" represents the number we currently own?

I just now purchased my 2nd Experia, a new 2025 model for less than 20K$ OTD. with all the luggage.

I now own a dozen motorcycles, half ICE and half electric!

Now I can keep an Experia at each house. I normally ride my Zero DSR/X between the houses.

i will put my 2020 SS9- in a far corner of the garage, out of the way, and start the work of replacing that DCFC fuse. There will be no hurry on that, having two Experias.

If I called you nuts it would only be out of jealousy! I wish I had that much space and moto cash.

An Experia is really the only bike I would swap my SS9 for. Since private sales/trades seem much less likely with the current predicament, I am picking up the OZ wheels and some spares from the recent Energica sale to keep the SS9 freshened up and riding well.  8)

If they make a decent touring model of that, (like the Experia) I could have my 13th motorcycle soon.

You would seriously consider a Verge with all its insane design flaws?

Nope, I didn't know. But I expect first year models of anything to have issues. I think that has always been true. I will consider it after they get the serious bugs out.

I really like the idea of the rear drive. I know almost nothing about the bike otherwise.

What are the more serious design flaws?

The rear wheel IS a massive design flaw. It's unsprung weight. Like 80 pounds of it! I've been saying since day 1 it's a gimmick for the sake of gimmick and it's going to have absolute dogshit handling. And guess what? Motorcycle.com's Troy Siahaan got to ride one for a couple hours and immediately reported that it handled like shit. https://www.motorcycle.com/bikes/manufacturer/2024-verge-ts-pro-electric-motorcycle-review-quick-ride-44603878

Quote
The handling is all kinds of awkward

Put that aside, how do you change the rear tire? Well, thankfully Verge put out a video showing just how easy it is. See, you just remove 29 blue-loctited bolts which allows you to slide the sleeve that holds the tire on. Then you simply take that sleeve/tire to a tire shop that may or may not have the equipment to remove a tire from a giant axle-less rim. Once you achieve that small miracle you take it home and put blue loctite on the 29 bolts you took off and mount it. How do you balance it? You don't. Because Verge does not believe tire imbalances exist. The video is called "How to change the rear tire on Verge TS Pro" and they literally do not show how to change the tire. It just cuts to the tire being magically changed.

Next up, have a look at the giant orange phase leads going from the inverter to the hub motor. They're outside the frame and have absolutely no sort of guard or shield because Verge believes that road debris isn't a real thing. Not only is it madness to put the phase leads outside the frame, but it's straight up dangerous to not protect them in any way.

And then, smaller gripe, if you want to make adjustments to the bike's ride modes, that screen is in your crotch. Which is where you want to be looking when changing settings on the fly. Stupid bike.

Could you imagine that thing on a track weekend.  ride friday, change tire saturday, sleep sunday because you are exhausted from wrestling with a tire all damned day, on monday ask friends how they enjoyed track weekend.

I mean, as long as the track is a straight line. You can't really corner with the bike, especially at speeds.

Since I ride motorcycles much like a little old lady compared to most other riders, I wonder if I would even notice how poorly it handles.

But I don't think I would consider r a first-year model. But I will probably be dead before they get all the bugs out of a bike like that.

I would want to see hundreds of them on the road for a while.

These are not bugs. These are proud features. The manufacturer is a bleeding moron.

Don, those are truly luxury problems.

But I can totally relate.
Yesterday, I stumbled over my hermine coat when strolling through my climatised underground garage and hit my head on the bumper of my Ferrari GTO. Oh my god - the pain!
