Buyers Remorse pending ?
« on: May 28, 2025, 11:31:53 AM »

hi ya
I just ordered a E motorcycle out of China. It's a Ducati look alike. Has lots of nice features and eye candy.  Under the plastic it's sporting a 15 kw mid chain drive motor powered by a 100 ah lfp battery. The controller might be junk, it's a fardriver ty 72a270.  it won't arrive until mid july. just thought I'd ask will this be a disappointment?
If it's lame on the power what might I want to do to pump it up?   different motor? more ah battery, more voltage, different controller, drop in 1 litre gas motor?

thanks

"100 ah" is meaningless if you do not state the voltage.

How many KWH is the battery?

Replacing any one of the major drive components (battery, motor, controller) as an end user will cost you almost as much as the whole bike does, and likely the only way to improve performance will be to replace all three.
Lfp batteries are great for longevity, but just don’t have the power density of the typical ncm cells, so I suspect it’s not going to be light. If you’re expecting a feeling of power I don’t think this is going to satisfy.
Having said that, power isn’t everything, you can have a blast on a low power bike getting your lean on that legal speeds. And let’s be honest guys, any bike is better than no bike, even a Harley if you’re into that.

doing the math it's approx 26 hp or 250 cc apx.    battery is 72 v,  lfp. I avoid li-ion due to bad luck, friends house burned down.  any bike ?  i have 4, 2 85 kawasaki gpz 550/750, and a hd softtail and now my first ev an electric motorcycle.  I went with the largest motor available off alibaba 15 kw cont. 30 peak.  the battery is 100 ah and i figure will be a good starting point.  if i did math correctly 100a x 72v  = 7.2 kw.  controllers are insanely expensive so i expect this controller is probably cheapest available and the 1st to be replaced.   Still regardless of the bikes potential short comings I'm confident it will be fun on the side roads.  According to utube videos the bike will do 0-60 in 6 and has a top speed of 100mph.  Of course we'll see what it can do once it arrives.

0 to 60 in under 6 seconds, 100 mph are you sure I'll be disappointed?   heck my 750 isn't that much faster even with 4x the hp.

I assumes is something like this

https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/160Km-h-15kW-Water-Cooled-Sport_1601292469299.html?spm=a2706.7843667.0.0.2a224e1978A7Fg

yes pretty much.  I've read reviews and utube videos on the e-fly bikes and one had the bike equipped with a 8kw hub motor and SLA battery pack.  Pretty sure the 15 kw mod drive chain motor and lfp battery pack with out-perform the e-fly bike.

guess you didn't see the controller model number. any way it's a 72 volt lfp battery pack, probably rated at 2C discharge and 7.2 kw.

The bike in it's stock form is my proof of concept and basically a rolling chassis.
I fully expect to mod the bike over time,

the battery pack can be resized, space permitting to 96v at 100 ah or larger.

The motor is a question mark, trying to get straight answers from alibaba is like a visit to the dentist - slow and painful.
Its supposed a be a qs brand mid motor chain drive rated at 15 kw cont. 30 peak,  probably air cooled.

The controller is a fardriver  NS30  rated at 270 line amps and 660 phase amps. and should be adequate.

Good luck to you, any english language exchange on Alibaba is likely to be 99% whatever bullshit spec they think you'll believe to make the sale.

you can't just go changing the voltage of the battery pack from 72 tp 96 to upgrade the bike.  that will end up a disaster, power mapping, what can the motor handle, inrush, so many things.  Adding a few volts, ok maybe but adding 25 percent?   good luck.

I wish you the best of luck. You might need it!

In the future, I’d seriously consider a used Zero. If you’re patient, you can get good ones for seriously little money. There was one right here on EMF for $3,500 a couple weeks ago with a legit ~80 mile highway range, 6 kW charging, and very quick. I used to have a similar one with a smaller battery, and it was very dependable, much more than anything from Aliexpress / Alibaba. There’s simply no reason to roll the dice on a no-name, no-support overseas special when you can find such amazing deals on established electric brands right now.

I don’t know what you paid for that thing, but I’ll be that by the time you’ve upgraded it into something decent (if such a thing even proves possible), you’ll have spent almost as much money as a 2020-2022 Livewire, which has DC fast charging, almost 100 mile highway range, and claimed 0-60 in 3.0 seconds. You can get excellent Chinese gas bikes, and you can get excellent 125cc-equivalent electrics in the Chinese domestic market or places like Taiwan, but you should never import an electric powered two-wheeler. The chance of getting scammed is almost 100%.

It really depends on what the motor and controller as rated for. My particular hardware is rated for a max of 84v.  But until I get the bike I can only speculate on it's performance.  It's possible there won't be any urgent need to upgrade. but waiting patiently for delivery. And since funds are limited it might be next year before I can even consider any part changes.
