massive power outage in spain / portugal
« on: April 29, 2025, 03:59:23 AM »

They are saying this could take days to fix too.
Folks, this can happen anywhere.
one good emp or solar flare and it's lights out anywhere / everywhere.

You think it's rough now, think in clown worlds where they are being forced to drive nothing but electric vehicles.  Those places are really going to have a time at it.   but, if you own a home and have solar panels, it just might save your ass... if you were smart enough to have battery back up too so you didn't HAVE to have a grid to run it.  But what good is transportation if everywhere is shut down?

might be a good time to go visit some relatives and friends.  nothing else to d0!

take care of yourselves and be careful.  even though the grid is off, it is NOT dead and will still very easily kill you...food for thought.

California is trying hard to ban natural gas so there will be no way to cook or have hot water in a power failure. And banning gas generators just to make sure you're screwed. Wouldn't want you to be able to run a furnace! I'm not sure they've thought about people who live up in the mountains and get snowed in. Wood burning it is?

there is bio gas and propane.   those who want to push the methane from dumps, conveniently try to ignore the silane problem, along with the other horrible gases mixed in with it.  acid rain, nox, so2, h2s etc etc.

the people in the mountains should just continue to do what they do and ignore them city slickers.  if a monster sun emp rammed us back to the 18th century with a massive solar flare and grid / internet / phone disruption, id be happy.   don't need a phone to fish and enjoy nature.  my fermenter runs fine w/o electricity too.

Civilization is a house of cards?

If we get "one good emp or solar flare" your solar cells will stop charging the batteries and the DC/AC generator will be dead too.
Your electric car will not work either. Dead controllers.
Your petrol (I cannot call liquid a gas) car will of course be dead.
Even diesel engined cars need electricity for the electronically controlled injectors and starters.
Gas hobs use electricity to light the gas. Modern gas ovens usually use electricity for heat control. Electronics control pressure and flow through pipes. Electric pumps pump the gas.
Then there is that large part of all the human knowledge is only stored in electrical form.
If central heating fails almost all books will rot or turn to dust in couple of decades. Apart from those that humans will burn for warmth.
Want more chilling predictions?
I prefer to live in denial.

older cars will run just fine, you know, before all that electronic bullshit.
diesel engines don't need electronic crap either.  my lister runs fine.
generators, you can use a carbon pile to reg voltage and the old stuff,  ie primitive silicon, like a silverstat will be just snazzy.

guess you never went camping?
civilization will be fine for those who are not lazy and excepting every whim and fancy to be taken care of for them.  the mass purge will actually be a good thing.  less clowns to have to deal with on the highways when driving my 1978 diesel, oh which also runs on veggie oil, and animal oils.  all those dead, well cook them before you bury / burn them to kill off pathogens and siphon off the oils in them to burn.

Tops.

The latest cars that would survive a large EMP would be from the 80's. Cars like Mercedes Bens 300D. Basically everything later that the 80's has ECU, which would fail under large enough EMP. There are nearly twice as many people on earth today than back when those cars were made. And most cars from that era have met with the big crusher in the sky, or had close encounters with the infectious tinworm. Not many cars per 1000 persons left. And petrol and diesel would become scarce really soon. As would veggie and animal oil. Oil would be prioritized for cooking and heating. Cars and trucks that ran out of fuel would be on the road, not neatly parked in parking lots.
What would also stop is transportation of food. Lot of people would go hungry and cold really soon. Lots of those hungry and cold people have guns. Guess how that is likely to end.

I went camping a lot, still do.
I still prefer to live in denial, that no EMP will hit. That civilization will carry on better than usual. Better than nearly one million Russian soldiers dead since Putin started the invasion into Ukraine. Better than tens or hundred of thousands of Palestinian civilians, including women and children dead since the Israelis stopped even pretending to be civilized. Better than Chinese minorities and religious groups in concentration camps. Better than US government agents abducting US civilians and exporting them, and stopping humanitarian aid to people who are suffering. And that's only in the last few months and years.

The American dream about having lots of guns is actually just as fucked as the one about having a truck and lots of diesel: without production, the supply dries up... extremely fast. Not only is ammunition no longer being produced, it's no longer being transported from the factories that make it, to the distribution warehouses, to the shops that used to sell it (before they were presumably looted empty). You'll be left basically with the small amount of ammunition that you literally have within a few miles of wherever you were when your diesel ran out. And as Americans are wont to shoot at each other even when they're happy and not at war with themselves, you can imagine that those bullets aren't going to last for very long.

again, the brony army expecting someone  to take care of everything for them, and the thought of having to do something themselves  OMG!!!

there is plenty of oil around.  your type will be extinct in a year or so, and the rest of us will go on living, probably have used you for fuel or animal feed along the way.

i love the one crying because us aid is drying up.  Why does the usa have to be the babysitter for the rest of the world?  what about all the other countries pitching in, instead of just expecting America to wipe their asses for them.  you could open up YOUR wallet and send some of your  cash too, or better yet, join the missionary's and go give some actual help yourself.  oh wait, virtue signaling is just that... signaling, not actually having to be responsible yourself or give YOUR hard earned cash labor or resources.

The guns are so than when the have nots, and can't take care of themselves, like you, come by trying to steal the resources, they become the fuel for our diesels, and food for our animals.  Ammo is easy to reload, gunpowder is easy to make, however someone who is not used to taking care of themselves wouldn't know this.   But this is ok, those who are prepared, will welcome the slave labor from the unprepared, after all slavery too, is another tradition that's been in the human blood line for centuries as well.  Ahh yes, the day of the gimme dat, and entitlement will soon be gone.

Anyone under 40 or so about 60 percent will be dead in a few months.  They'll commit suicide because they can't update their selfies and their tiny ego's get crushed when there are not 400 fake friends to re affirm and validate them 10 times a day.  A lot more fuel, a lot more food saved.  Throw in another 30 percent who have no clue how to just generally take care of themselves when the starving mobs do attack.  Then finally the first winter will get rid of the rest of the ..well  Klaus actually nailed it when he called ya'all  'Useless Eaters'.  Afterwards the world will be much leaner, and healthier, both physically and mentally, as most the mental sickness that the internet helped spread, and all this woke garbage, gets buried with the last of the rotting multi colored haired corpses wearing their blue and yellow rags.  When people have to start growing real food again too and not eating that over processed chemical garbage that is killing them, their health will increase as well.

OH and lets not forget.  how many people NEED drugs to stay alive?  insulin, blood pressure, blood thinners, etc etc.  how long will they last when their meds run out.. buh bye.  There are plenty of plants that carry components that naturally will do the same thing for them, but since,  HEY SIRI...is no longer an option for the intellectually lazy and inferior, well, there goes that lifeline.  But before you call your therapist in a panic, an emp is not a guarantee to wipe out your stuff,  it can, it may, but it isn't 100 percent WILL.   Faraday shields are a thing too, but why at this point?  pots and sound powered still work and don't need.

Reading this stuff is better than watching a movie, so I'll add my chapter. :)

Chances are, all of this is irrelevant, unless something catastrophic happens in the next 10 years. Ironically, if a nuclear war happens, it may even be a blessing in disguise that prolongs humanity.

Whenever anyone warns about the effects of global warming in 2100, I just roll my eyes. The fact is, there are not going to be any humans in 2100.

AI innovations are evolving at a pace even more rapid than outlined in Kurzweil's book on the Singularity. All it will take is a few key things like active dynamic model training, adversarial feedback loops like the kind used by Alpha Go, advances in humanoid and non-humanoid robots, reduction in power and size needed for AI chips, etc. Today's AIs already have the whole of human knowledge at their disposal, to apply in new ways we haven't seen, and are already capable of improving their own code.

When the Singularity does occur between 2035 and 2045, there won't be time to do anything about it. Technology will be changing massively every month, then every week, then every day, then every hour. Nobody will be able to predict what's going to happen past the moment the exponential curve of technology goes vertical.

Shhh, while I don't disagree with the sentiment here, we're not supposed to tell our neighbours we're planning on using them as a fuel source beforehand.

I don't think I've ever heard so much boomer nonsense in my life. No one under 40 will survive without the internet? I'm only 33 and even my childhood wasn't filled with tablets, it was going out in the woods making camps. I don't even think I knew about wikipedia before I left school, we did our research from physical books from libraries. I still have a stack of encyclopaedias kicking about somewhere. And not to mention that us millennials are going to be much fitter and healthier than the average boomer, and actually less reliant on medications. covid deaths were nearly ten times higher for over 45s, fifteen times if you were over 65. Diabetes prevalence is 3 percent between the ages of 35 and 44, 4 percent up to 54 years, 9 percent up to 64, 15 percent for those 65 and over. Heart disease is most common in people over 50 and 82% of people who die from it are over 65.

As for the American aid stuff, that's some saviour complex shit right there. Cas is British like me and we certainly haven't benefitted at all from America. Per capita American foreign aid ranks below many European countries, and if you just take the total then they've contributed less than half what the EU has despite having 1.3 times the population. And let's not act like America has never benefitted from the help of foreign countries.

I think at this point it would be worth watching Leave The World Behind, Don't Look Up, and How It Ends :)

Stuff is fragile. Don't be deluded into thinking a bit of diesel and a handful of 9mm are going to help. They're not.

Really? I would put the odds at "almost certainty" within the next 100 years. I'm not sure that people have quite grasped just how catastrophic the environmental disaster is that is currently unfolding around us. I'm almost considering buying huge sacks of dried beans and tins of tomatoes, except that I think there's maybe about 20 years to go before things start to go really shit-shaped and I'll be an old bastard by then and probably ready to die.

as fast as tech is progressing,  by 2038 i think all this current tech will probably be pretty obsolete, and those worries, also, a thing of the past.  the y2k was not that big of a problem as they made it out to be.  Afterall you need some sort of globe killing  catastrophe for your government to protect you from to justify wasting all your money, and for the papers to sell their rags to the unwashed masses right?

we are going to have other health issues as well,  all the higher frequencies stuff runs at, and how much more saturated your ..ill call it  life space, is with all this emf and rf pollution.  microwave energy does not have to be exactly on resonant frequency to cause a result.... it's just most efficient there.  But, no worries, we'll be a machine / flesh hybrid at that point anyways, however instead of being tapped into some sort of collective intelligence to guide us, it'll be more a collective ignorance that our species keeps adding to at orders of magnitude...  oh hey LOOK!!!!  it's the Tic Tard, don't look into laser with remaining eye challenge!!!   i bet i can beat it and be first to post!!!
