well that kind of sucks but honestly is right in line with the belts of today with synthetic components.  They really don't show wear like the old fashioned ones did, and just go.  The worst being the timing belt on cars, do NOT push that one past it's recommended change miles.  That'll eat an engine in a heartbeat.

None of my belts were in the slightest bit worn - they just snapped instantly. Two were cases of dealer overtightening (both occurred within 30 miles of having dealer adjust it). Third one was a supposedly new belt shipped to me by that same dealer which was clearly used and therefore of unknown provenance. I expect if they had anything to do with it, it had been overtightened as well at some point.

Sounds like the dealer’s torque wrench had a “repeat customer” setting.
