Hello all, just picked up an FX.  I'm currently searching for some modular batteries.  The 2.8 battery needed for my bike is pretty much unobtanium but I'm hoping someone out there may need to get rid of one or two of them for some reason. Also if someone has info on another battery that can be used please let me know.  Thanks in advance for info.

Are FX batteries interchangeable across all model years, or have there been redesigns? If they're not interchangeable, the prospect of getting new batteries for older models seems limited. Even if ordering from Zero, I wouldn't trust that I was getting a brand new battery vs. an ancient one off the shelf.

For the modular use one or two batteries the advice is if you want to use two at the same time buy two at the same time. Or buy the bike with two. Pretty sure it was a Zero person on this forum that told me this or responded to me on here about it.

My KTM batteries don't have any date on them so I kind of feel like you when it comes time to buy another one.  Right now Battery 3750 whole new left-over bike 6000. That is for the ktm power pack.

I understand why to get two batteries together and I will if I can.  If I can only get one than it will have to do.  I'm trying to avoid having to pay the full price from Zero and if I can't acquire batteries, I'll have to rebuild the bike with different batteries and components.

I am not aware of anyone except Zero selling new batteries that will fit Zero motorcycles.

I've been looking into replacement options for myself. The battery in my bike is most likely past the half way mark of its life. It's still okay but I expect the performance to nosedive in couple of years. I did find the similar pouch cells from China for about 3000 Euros for 14.4 kWh. Shipping was not included.

So far from the little bit of info I've been able to find, my particular battery, 2.8, may be a one or two year only battery.  I still haven't found info on batteries from other years and if they can be used.

The 3.6 has a slightly longer case, it does fit in older bikes but only from 2014 onwards. However the same is also said for the 3.3 but also those were maybe an upgrade for 2013 bikes. Considering the 3.3 was in bikes up to 2017 but is presumably the same size as the 2.8 I don't really know why bikes back to 2014 would have the extra space for the 3.6, but not 2013 bikes. Not sure why the 2.8 only works in bikes up until 2015 either, what changed from 2016 to make them no longer compatible.

In my research it appears that the 2.8 was only around for one or two model years.  I think I read that later ones even if they physically fit aren't compatible electronically.  Don't know.  I'll search a little more.  If I rebuild it I plan to remove everything but the controller, dc converter and motor and build the rest.  I can get the software and cords to program the Sevcon controller which is most of the battle for me.

Are you near Seattle? I can hook you up with a battery. The 2013 bms design is unique. The BMS are two pieces the second being a FET board that always fails, but if you just bypass it the bms communicated with the mbb and all is happy, the thing is I need to order and hook up an Ant bms that can do 28 cells in series to actually go into protection for all the necessary things. Anyway, I built a pack out of 364 Molicel p42a into the cases of the two bricks for my 2013 MX a year or so ago and since am using later model components and bricks on the bike.
