Good Afternoon everyone:

Went riding yesterday with a friend on his GSX'r.  Just putting around town, trying to find a place to eat, having fun on the bridges bla bla...  anyways.

On the way home,  we got with another biker just happened to come up to on the road and all of us ended up riding the east leg of 295 all the way up.  We ended up with a chevy pickup in front, a mustang next to him and us behind.  and remarkably pretty much NO traffic all the way up !!   I think you see where this is going.

Doing triple digits for double digit distance, the wind beats the hell out of you after a while.   :o ;D

? for the experienced riders, besides for hunching down of course, do you have any tricks / techniques to calm the wind buffeting / beating when driving in ... conditions.. that can make Cat 3, 4 hurricane winds?

As a shout out for the Energica Ribelle which is what I was on.  When we got done with our extended load test on the motor, I touched the thing and it was warm.  I could hold my hand on the motor and no discomfort.  Amazed and happy really that one can dump that kind of power into the motor continuously for a while.. and it's not getting stupid hot.

Loving this bike more and more every day!

Yeah the motor and inverter are liquid cooled. They'll never get very hot.

As far as wind buffeting, I mean you bought a naked streetfighter. The solution is, and always has been, fairings. But fairings aren't popular. So.... yeah.

Spector,

I have a Ribelle RS. Unless you really don't like the looks of it get the small windscreen that Energica has for it. Very easy to tuck behind when you are going into the triple digits. If you haven't already updated your firmware to Fw42 I highly recommend you do. Much better power delivery at lower SOC and much easier to get into the triple digits.

Ill have to look at which revision I have.  What's the easiest way to do that here?  But getting to the triple digits was no problem at all, in fact it's actually the opposite way around.  Getting into td's IS too easy to do, so I better watch my ass before I end up spending a night in the hoosgow for it !

I DO have the wind screen that the Ribelle comes with, but even hunched down, you still get buffeted around a bit.  Doing a quick hop at those speeds, yah, it's fun, the adrenaline hit is there.  But running 15  minutes straight at those speeds.. it's beginning to feel more like a chore, but how many times do you get to say, gee it's daylight and the highway is empty, there's NO traffic in my way. Can't let that kind opportunity pass you by  :D

When I got home I was at 28 percent charge,  I was tired, the bike wasn't  8)  Maybe I have not had the bike long enough to notice or paid attention properly enough but I haven't really seen any significant degrade in performance thru the battery range.

Aaron,  I have the $306.00 windscreen kit that is optional. Nearly all of my riding is commuting, 30 miles each way, usually getting to work with around 70% SOC. Ever since getting the RS in late September of last year performance on the way home has been rather disappointing, always thought maybe it was the cooler temps or something like that. I have a lot of long straight-aways that can allow you to pass multiple vehicles at one time. When I dropped my Ribelle off to update the firmware I got an EGO RS as a loaner. That wasn't any better. Just like with the Ribelle, the EGO I had for the ride home did not have the performance that the bike I rode to work had, not even close. Had to be really careful in making passing decisions going home. But Fw42 was like of total remapping of the power delivery. While you will get a 5MPH boost in top speed at full charge you are getting a 15-20 mph boost in top speed once you are down below 70% SOC. Fw 42 put the fun back in my ride home.

I agree with MVetter here, the Ribelle was not made for long-distance highway riding. Energica made the EsseEsse and lately the Experia for this kind of use  :D

From my own experience on the autobahn here, I can confirm that there are constraints in acceleration when the battery is low in SOC, but you only notice if you are either above let's say 130 km/h and open the throttle quickly or if SOC ist below 20 %. Otherwise the bike stil kicks your a**.
Please also remember that in Urban Mode the Ribelle's power and top speed is limited. Full potential and top speed is available in Race Mode only.

My bike is the 2023 so I am assuming (hopefully correctly) that it came with the 42 or above and I have to be honest and say I have not seen anything that was.. disappointing in the bike.  Even doing 80, giving it the gas to pass, you'll be doing 100 in a few seconds if you want to.

Im glad though to hear that your issues are taken care of.  Nothing would suck more than paying this kind of $$ for a performance bike and getting your grandmothers bike.

Curious why they waited to you get down to 70 soc before really turning up the juice on it.  About the only complaint I think I really have is I wish the cruise control switch was closer to your thumb.

Aaron, My Ribelle is a 2023 also and it came with Fw 41. Good chance that is what your's has on it to. It is in one of the menus what Fw you have.

Ill go take a look tomorrow.  Have not really dug super hard thru the set up menus and stuff really once I got it and did my initial look thru and preference settings.  I may have to go revisit some stuff.

I wish we could update the thing thru an app or something, taking it back to the dealer all the time is a real bitch, especially when the dealer is a few hundred miles away and... is not one of the better more reliable ones.

Getting my Ribelle to update the firmware saw major probkems with fault codes that left the bike unridable. In the end they had to replace the VCU to fix everything. But I was lucky to get a EGO RS as a loaner bike for the month or so it took to get the fw updated.

What's going on here with the bikes dying on firmware upgrades?  This is not the first 'catastrophic upgrade'I am hearing about.
hell, the things running fine right now.  don't need any of that crap !!

Electric motorcycles are still exotic creatures, so a few bugs might be expectable. Compared to an ICE we are riding a fat computer with a motor attached  8).
Code for an EV contains several hundredfold more code lines than used for the Apollo missions to the moon.

From what I see, Energica's 042 update is far from being what you can call catastrophic. There are unnecessary bugs regarding range and time to %SOC prediction, but the bikes are still fully usable.
ultrarnr's bike apparently had faulty hardware which was getting obvious when the update was done.
