According to a CBS radio news report that I just heard, Tesla and the White House have announced that by the end of next year Tesla will open up their 7,500 U.S. Superchargers and Destination Chargers to all electric vehicle. They will also triple the number of charging stations in the U.S. over the next few years.

I doubt it. Tesla's plug standard in North America isn't going away any time soon. Sure, they'll make some J1772 destination chargers but the majority of them will continue to be their standard.

and why shouldn't they?
THEY are providing the chargers and all the stuff and are the biggest dealer out there, so why can't they get to BE the standard?  Others can conform to them.

Reminds me of back in the days of dial up service the modem wars between the 56k standards.  What was it  X2 and k-flex or something?

IMO, Tesla should only have them available where there is nothing else around. Such as the Tesla Superchargers at Lake Topaz, NV or SusanVille, CA where there is no CCS around for many miles and these Tesla SuperChargers are never all being used at the same time, AFAIK.


If Tesla overdoes it, they could put ChargePoint, EV-GO and many others out of business as well as piss-off Tesla owners in places such as Silcon Valley where all the Tesla Superchargers chargers are being used as it is--even at night. You may ask me how I know, but it was a few years ago. But I doubt if it has gotten any better since then. Property way too expensive for more charge stations and way too many Teslas in that area from out of town. Like me at the time.


And now, there are more people driving Teslas than ever. I see dozens of them every day, even here in Reno.


Locals will be charging at home, so that isn't what causes the problem.

That article is a bit misleading.
In Germany Tesla allows other brands to charge at just a few selected locations only. But in the neighborhood of most of them are other stations, so they do not make any difference.
It appears to be just a marketing fad.

IOW, even Tesla is putting their new CCS compatible chargers only in the areas where they are not needed much.
