Perhaps Zero has already made more bikes than they can sell for a while.  They probably have some good competition from Energica these days.

With my experience with Zero over the last 2 or so years, I wouldn't consider a bike from them until another 10 years from now when they might have changes some core areas or if it was a good competitor to the CSC RX1E as I see is a pretty good setup with a big enough battery to get me to work and back if need be.

I doubt it. And I hope not. Espcally if I need another DS someday with the smaller battery to take on my RV trips. It's the perfect bike for my RV trips.

My opinion is they may be moving production overseas.  It's hard to compete in this segment with California wages.

There's a post on reddit (

) that includes the original script for the news report.  The script reads "an entire assembly line," not "the entire assembly line."  It appears the broadcaster didn't read the script closely enough.

Probably moving labor to mexico, cheaper and not getting killed in gimme dat taxes that california socks to them.

With the economy tanking like it is, how are overall EV sales going across the board?  Have a feeling they will be down turning real soon as well, so this is probably just in line with pretty much everyone else laying off people.

I had a chat with a significant UK EV motorbike dealer a couple weeks ago and they said they're hunkering down for a bad year between poor economy and continued bashing of electric bikes in the press.

I might add that this item is likely just one news story out of many regarding a number of "high tech" SF Bay Area companies laying off thousands of employees this year. Hardly a day goes by here when another tech company announces more layoffs of their employees. And it looks like Zero has caught the layoff fever. It seems to be a real trend that is being encouraged by the companies' investors and stockholders as the worldwide economy appears to be declining.

I used to work at GTE Lenkurt in San Carlos, CA. They decided to save money by moving to ABQ, NM. That move caused them to go bankrupt. Yeah, they could get MUCH cheaper labor there. But couldn't find the same quality of employees as they could in the SF Bay Area. All the tech people are in places such as Silicon Valley. It's been that way for quite a while.


You get what you pay for.


But Zero is made in CA--with mostly Chinese parts! Perhaps overseas is less of a gamble than other areas stateside.

They might be splitting the difference?  Keeping design and engineering in CA, but move assembly to a lower cost area.  We shall see.
