Here is the latest news about Quantumscape's progress with designing and manufacturing a solid state EV battery. Sounds promising, but will they need to do better than 400 recharges before the battery capacity reaches 80%? However, the claim appears to be that the batteries will last a lot longer if they are not recharged with a powerful DC fast charger 400 times during their life. But the presenter does make some very good points regarding both battery technology and the future of electric vehicles:

400 charges really isn't enough, and someone using these batteries to slog up and down the motorway is going to use DCFC a lot. Never mind the fact it wears out so quickly and inconveniences you ... imagine the resale value plummeting.
