Very confused as to why they used that massive photo of a EV Hummer... It's never mentioned once in the article.

The customer base (early adopters) of 1st gen EV trucks will not be construction workers or ranch hands. The majority of buyers will be families & outdoor types that are looking for a larger EV option.
Americans like big cars, if you remove the gas guzzler element from the equation a full size 4 door truck is an attractive option.

James (guy interviewed) makes statements about why he will not get a EV truck that illustrate the average persons misconceptions about battery powered vehicles. Education and hands on experience will be important to convince the core truck customers to make the switch.
The idea of being able to power a job site using a truck could be a game changer for some. Cost of charging a truck vs 50 gallons of diesel will be another big one. Then there is the reduced maintenance costs for the people that put tens of thousands of miles in every year.

The town where my daughter lives, Fairfax, CA, (population 7,500) is going all-in (at least to start) with electric vehicle power according to the town's newsletter that she just sent me. In addition to installing a free L2 electric charging station near city hall, they recently authorized the Town Manager to move forward with upgrading the town's ability to charge more electric vehicles as well as to purchase one 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning CREW CAB 4X4 LIGHTNING PRO EV. Nothing but the best when it is being funded by the taxpayers.

Richard,  the Pro is the base model.  as base as is possible.  xlt, lariat and platinum are the upscale models.  No regular cab and 8 foot bed for the electric choices for 2022(at least from Ford).  I was examining the choices yesterday.  If I choose the 10,000 pound towing that makes for the double motor and larger battery.  It uses pouch cells.  A buyer can upgrade the pro level one more than the base xl gasoline one at least last I tried to spec out a replacement for what I have.  It comes with a bunch of stuff that the xl base model of gas doesn't.  Like I bet it has electric windows.  400 pound rating for putting stuff in the frumk which might be ok for a surveyor or something the town would have use it.  The towns generally have small dump trucks.

As for the Rivian it is more like the Honda Ridgeline or Subaru Brat of years gone by.  I think Ford has a fraction of ownership in that.

This is because otherwise you will have to pay value added tax?

I would think for someone that has some sort of vehicle like a four wheel drive range rover the four electric motors one for each wheel would be worth experimenting with.  Maybe even an audi quattro for reference.

Yep, got to be a 1 tonne payload or it can't be classified as a commercial vehicle, which means it can't be run by your company as just a bit of equipment like a computer. Massive tax incentives.
