The massive shame with the R1T is that its payload is only 800kg which disqualifies it for use a commercial vehicle in the UK. Which mean likely mean absolutely nobody with any sense will buy one here.

But they probably will in the US where a lot of pickup trucks are used more for recreation and commuting than for commercial uses. Plus, we do have a lot of rocks here which no doubt need to be climbed.

The "commercial vehicle" designation is a tax dodge over here - if it's a commercial you can claim back the VAT on the purchase price (20%!!!), and run the entire vehicle as a van through a limited co, meaning that the ltd. co pays for all the servicing, insurance, etc. out of revenues so it's incredibly tax efficient, and loads and loads of people here drive around in pickups specifically to take advantage of the tax dodge. Myself included until I sold it last year to pay for the SRF

(in case anyone else was wondering bikes are also counted the same way as office equipment here in the UK for ltd cos... so no VAT, company pays for everything, etc. but you do have to pay BIK on % private use)

It isn't really a pick up truck to me.  Still is an intresting vehicle.  I believe Ford is part owner of Rivian now.  11,000 pound towing rating, that would mean 1,100 tongue load and presumably a weight distributing hitch.  I am guessing that would be with no passengers and all the weight allowable in the frunk.

I do like the $5000 slide-out kitchen. Just what you need for "tailgate" parties.

The 110v outlets in the bed can support up to 1500w, so enough to charge your favorite Zero.

It's expensive, but looks like they built it to meet those expectations.

It's expensive, but not outside the realm of other premium pickup trucks. Rivian says they plan to make a cheap (~$40k) one day.
