An article in my newspaper today by Peter Douglas in his Green Rides column quotes a study titled "A global comparison of the life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions of combustion engine and electric passenger cars", published on July 20th, by The International Council on Clean Energy Transportation. Their report concludes that today's battery electric vehicles "have by far the lowest life-cycle GHC emissions".  Attached is a copy of Peter Douglas's article.

It was always painfully obvious to anyone not in the pocket of the oil industry lobbying machine that this was the case.

Pretty much.  I remember doing napkin calculations decades ago.  It never made sense that massively more weight in coal or oil was going to have a lower footprint. Even assuming the batteries weren't recycled that was true, but battery recycling is finally coming around, as are massive amounts of renewable energy.

We coulda just build this with infrastructure money ages ago, but nooo.  *sigh*

Oil literally has slave labor in the Congo and a long history of poisoning that very nation.

It's not 'both sides bad' and the advantage was never to lower impacts to oil.

Indeed, that sounds very much like "some very fine people on both sides" speak.
The oil industry are evil, evil, evil bastards. I should know. I work in it. One would hope that the battery industry won't stoop to the same horrific levels but ... there is money involved, and money is the root of all evil.
