A lot of print to say nothing at all. What is the advantage, if any, over Windows 10?


I do see the disadvantages mentioned, but there has to be more to it than that.

At least one person on another forum that seemed to know something about W11 claimed that it would be sending "a ton of information" to Microsoft regarding your use of the program.

One thing that really irritates me about W10 is that it steals my photos off of my computer files without me asking it to do so and places them in an album in the cloud. That is one feature that I can do without, but I bet it or something like it (maybe more intrusive) will be a feature of W11.

You can change W10 to not do that. My photos all stay where I put them.


You probably have JPG and other such files associated to a program that causes such.

I got tired of dealing with Windows and switched most of my old computers that would not run Windows anymore to Linux about a year ago.  A bit of a learning curve but I am happy with the end result.

Still hoping for Linux to Not Be Shit one day but I've been hoping that for 20 years and it's still not happened yet and I doubt it ever will by design. MacOS is awful beyond belief, but mostly because of Apple. Sadly this leaves Windows 10, which is the least shit Windows since Windows NT 3.51, so that's sort of nice.

Windows 10: Doing a 2TB file transfer?  Oop, I'll fall asleep after an hour, even though the operation takes twelve.
MacOS: Yeah, lemme finish that file transfer first.  I'll powernap anything else, tho.

I have an old computer that runs Windows 7 "ultimate". I have been very happy with that system and it has never given me any problems. With Windows 10 has been a constant struggle to maintain my settings. Every time I get an update, it resets the system so that I have to struggle to get it to find my printer again (as an example) and I still haven't be able to get my printer's scanner feature to work again like it used to do. I never had that issue with Windows 7.

Windows Ten has not caused me any issues at all, other than putting it on an old notebook computer that can only have  two megs of RAM.  It works, but ridiculously slow. It was designed for Windows 7. You're probably best off to keep it with Windows 7 as I should have done with my old notebook computer.


The desktop computer I am using right now works perfectly with Win10.  Never gave me any issues, has 8 megs of RAM, and fast. I use a wireless printer/scanner / fax combo that is located in a different work which also never gave me any issues.


I have no reason to even try Windows 11, but I still wonder what the advantage can be, if any,  to anybody whose computers are okay with Win10.

Windows 7 was not good but not too awful, 8 was a mess, 10 is a mess.

I agree W7 was better than W8 for a few reasons.


But what are the issues some have with Win10?   Win10 has always worked perfectly for me and I do not even want to try Win11 because I doubt there will be any advantage to me.


Win10 does everything I want it to do.   And as is,  it has tons of features I will probably never use.

For me, Windows 10 is just too complicated and the constant updates are not helping. All I use my computers for is to visit motorcycle forums, send and receive email, watch YouTube videos, store photos that I have taken, check the local weather using Weather Underground and word process using LibreOffice. And the only thing I use my cell phone for is to make telephone calls - unfortunately, I have to walk a half mile to where I can receive a signal before I can make a call.

Don't expect the updates to do much of anything. You shouldn't have any issues with Win10 for what you're using your computer for.


I probably make two calls per year from my cell on the average. It is almost never turned on, but I always take it with me.  But it's on V W/L, as I want it to work when I do need it, and they have the best range.

I hope when you say "megs" you actually mean "gigs".

Personally I'm fine with Win10, as I was with Win98, Win2000 and Windows 7. 8 seemed pointless to me, and if I have to pay for an upgrade to W11 I will postpone it for as long as I can. I am on a metered connection and I don't need all this bandwidth eating foofoo stuff. I managed to turn everything off that I don't need but these days it's quite a challenge to go to cnn's home page without a video automatically popping up (not happening anymore here and a firewall also helps a lot locking things out that don't need internet).

I almost forgot that I also use my cell phone to update my Zero's firmware. That is likely the best use of that device.
