So the impact of the cyber attack on the gas pipeline is being felt at the gas pump. With everyone rushing to fill up their gas tank many gas stations are now out of gas. Those that do have gas have long lines and in some cases have police directing traffic into and out of the stations. What a mess! It is a good time to be riding electric and avoiding the stress of trying to find gas. There is plenty of power coming out of the outlet in my garage so my Ribelle will be charged in the morning.

Today, some fellow EV owners at my work snickered to each other about this. Feels good. ICE owners were complaining about having to drive by about a dozen gas stations before finally getting a chance to fill up.

What I will probably never understand is why important stuff can be accessed by the outside world. There is no better security than being 100% self-contained with  no lines outside the building that can be accessed by computer.

DonTom,  Completely agree. Cyber is one of my focus areas at work and there will come a day we will pay dearly for having power plants and other critical infrastructure connected to the internet. Mainly due to hurricanes and the power outages that come with them I have a generator I can charge my Ribelle and Model 3 on but my gas supply won't last forever if everything gets turned off.

Hopefully, people won't try to clean their backside outlet valve with gasoline... TP in the tank won't work out well either...

When the power was off for the Red Flag weather, I was still better off on my bike - the gas stations need power, too.  I just had to ride to somewhere that did have power.  Like the garage near the movie theater

I can charge off my generator now.  I just have to get the generator hooked up to the house... Now that it's warm again (and not on fire) I can try loosening that stuck pipe.

And now there are reports of a "gas crisis" in some areas of the Southeast due to the shutdown of the big interstate fuel transportation line. Sort of like a mini-1970's gas crisis, with car drivers panicking and sucking every gallon out of gas stations - leaving to even more panic. At some stations gas prices have soared to $7 a gallon according to this morning's news reports. I guess if you run out of gas and can't drive or ride for a while you will not be hitting as many cicadas, so that might be a plus.  Or maybe not.

This reminds me of the mid-1970's gas crisis when I would have to get up at 5am and get in line to buy gas at one of the two local gas stations (one of which was nuked years ago) and wait for it to open up at 7am so they could pump gas for a couple of hours until their fuel allocation ran out. I tell you, if electric motorcycles were around in those days, they could have sold a million a year - if that sort of production capability had existed. My recollection is that there were a couple of small companies that tried manufacturing urban mini-bikes powered by 12V car-batteries. Needless to say, those attempts just didn't have enough time to be sorted out before the crisis ended and gas started flowing again.

I bet that once the fuel line is back in operation and supplies are plentiful again this will all be a fading memory - until it happens again when the next middle eastern war starts.

There are some REALLY long lines at gas stations now, saw one today, probably 1/4 mile or so and bet folks would wait for a few hours to get gas. It may get sorted out in a few days but it sure is pretty ugly right now.

The fuel line is back in operation again, but the buying panic continues. I wonder if EV owners in California will feel that way when the power goes out for a week during a PG&E Power Safety Shutdown when conditions for a wildfire occur this summer? Tough to hoard electricity, though unless you have a lot of solar panels and a really big Power Wall.

You can bet those solar fanbois will be radiating smugness no doubt Probably managed to harvest a few kwh if they just stand in front of their own panels.

All I had to do was ride my bike to the movies, Richard.

Tho the chargers did get lots of extra use!  I had to plug into the wall and park between all the EVs.

Not a big deal now that I have my RV here. And an ICE bike with a 8.5 gallon full tank. I keep my Stelvio  gas tank full during the summer, but I can make it to Reno even on an electric as Cisco Grove always has power (and charge stations) when the power is off here in Auburn.


In fact, electric is better as there is a very long line there for trucks and cars to get gas when the power is off here. No line for the charge stations.

At work they reported that 68% of the gas stations in NC are dry and that it may take 5-10 days for fuel to get to retailors.
