The larger battery is 60% more power-dense and is significantly lighter. Although I know they still list the smaller battery models for sale, I don't think there have been any orders for them since the release of the 21.5kWh models.

Right now, all Energicas are hot. I hear they  ran out of parts and you cannot buy them, at least not in the SF bay area, for a while.   All they had at the Livermore shop was their demo bike which they cannot sell for a few more months. They have a waiting list, so it will be a while before the shop has any. I think the pandemic has caused them a lot of problems, so I expect it will soon get better. But don't expect anything new for 2022 models.

There are quite a few new or almost new at dealers in Germany.
The one I am eyeing is from a private seller. White EGO from 2018, 8500 km, 14500€ (about 17600 USD).
It is of course the small battery. All service and updates at dealership. According to text it is mint condition.

Given my daily commute is only 50 km in total I am pretty close to saying I want this.
The only interesting track in Denmark is, unfortunately, 300 km away, but they are building a 400 kW charger during the summer. The trip to it might be a bummer but even with the small battery EGO I should, with the DC fastcharger, be able to keep full power during the sessions. But this is maybe once a year so I shouldn't be basing everything on this.

The downside could be that it's hard to sell (due to the poor range) and everyone wants long range. On the other side I am not going to loose as much money from buying this than buying an almost new 21,5 kWh model. I have had my Yamaha FZ6 for 15 years and I don't expect to keep the EGO that long. Don't want to buy a new battery - especially since I won't be able to upgrade to the bigger pack.

Please tell that I have nothing to worry about with these "older" batterypacks. We bought a Tesla Model 3 (DualMotor) last year and I have zero worries about that batterypack.

I find my range to be just right on my 2020 SS9--as long as there are enough CCS charge stations. By the time I come close to running out of juice is about the same time I need a break. So I see the issue as needing more charge stations more so than needing more range on a charge. If I only need to charge to 80% SOC, then the break time is also just the right amount of time as well.


But to have both is the best, of course.

I bought the Zero SR/S.  All bikes eventually need parts and service and there are no Energica dealers within 150 miles of me.  Do not have a truck, van, or even car with a trailer hitch so not practical for a bike I ride most days.

I like the looks and specs of the Energica models and it would have been interesting to see which one I would have bought if they were both locally available.

Also looked at the Livewire but have some doubts about its longevity on the marker and future support, - also a bit too expensive.

Although I have had some issues with my Zero I am very happy with my purchase and dealer support.  I would buy it again.

The ergonomics of the SR/S works perfectly for me, it has sufficient range for most of my rides, and the handling and performance exceeds my ability and needs by a wide margin.  It is now my only bike, sold all of my ICE bikes when I bought the Zero.

One other thing to consider is the warranty.

The Enegricas have a pretty short battery warranty potentially leaving you with a very expensive pile of scrap or repair.

Zero has a 5-year battery warranty and you get the latest pack size if your old battery fails. Quite a few people were upgraded from 13 to 14.4KwH batteries this way.

While Zero was handing out batteries like candy at the start it's much harder to get a warranty claim on them these days. I can't imagine it's a sustainable business model for Zero.

For Zero's battery replacements, who pays for the new pack?  Zero or Farasis?

I'm fairly certain, but not 100% sure, that it's Zero.

As well as 6.5 to 7.2 as in the case with my DS.

The 2018 I been eyeing.
Is does not have CruiseControl (seller has installed a manual thingy for this) and also no heated grips (don’t care much for this). Does this mean it also has no traction control? Wiki text seems like it was 3 things that was added for 2019 models?

Well I am used to no ABS and no nothing on the FZ6, but I would like some kind of traction control with 200 Nm :/

I don't think you get any of those things. Hopefully that 2018 is an amazing deal, otherwise I'd go for the Zero.

It's sold now I think... but yeah I don't think I want 200Nm without traction control. I am no novice but no superpro either - anything can happen and traction control might save my butt.

There's 'some' sort of traction control.  Even on my 2014 S.  It's just, the old the bike, the dumber the traction controls.

There's no traction control on pre-2019 Energicas. The TC has saved my ass a few times already (only saw the TC light blinking) accelerating out of corners when the asphalt was cold. I wouldn't recommend taking one without.

The next bike I purchase will definitely have traction control. The closest call I had was going over a bridge that had a steel plate on it and my rear wheel went zzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Definitely woke me up.
