A cell test comparison (youtube) 18650 form Li-ion
« on: September 09, 2020, 02:32:11 AM »

This may have been on here before but was produced about the same time as I joined.
Excellent and eyeopening ( but VERY quick speaking) well conducted comparison of chinese and other cells.

The big takehome message is do not trust the Chinese ratings. They are complete rubbish. I would be surprised if the cell info didn't also apply to the Chinese emotorcycles. Their government needs to tighten up this part of it's industry before it permanantly damages the country's reputation. It HAS the power.

Project Farm is a god when it comes to product comparisons, well worth a sub. I recently bought some ceramic coat spray based on his testing and it made my DS look like new (except for the seat, need to find something for that which isn't slippy).

Regarding the mislabelling of cell capacity, I think the issue is that no one holds then accountable. If LG, Samsung, Sony, etc. did it they'd be in massive trouble, but no one cares if it's some Chinese company doing it. I think the country's reputation is already damaged because it's what we all expect from them.

I know from people I know, that the Chinese car and motorcycle industry are aware that the " we can just give 'em cheap and they will buy" doesn't hold water with big ticket intems. Over the last few years, at international car shows, apparently, the chinese booths are grilling patrons for info on why their products aren't attracting buyers and taking the comments to heart. Sometimes even recontacting people that made suggestions and saying they have made such an improvement ( especially journalists), and those improvements actually showing up.
That needs to trickle down to smaller items.
If anyone could make a cheaper and worth having emotorcycle it will be the Chinese or the Indians. People forget that the BMW F800 and 650 singles were made in Chinda and extremely well ( I had both and I am pickey). My two carbon fibre mountain bike frames were made in mainland China and have been insanely reliable and tough. They can do it, but NEED to rein in the snakeoil areas of the industry. Note: Italy and Spain had to do similar things and succeeded, and they aren't command economies...

I remember decades back when there was a big argument about whether the Chinese would use carbon fiber for bicycles.

Turns out, the answer is 'yes'.
