Zero files tradmarks for two new models
« on: August 20, 2020, 06:28:52 AM »

Zero is requesting trademark protection for the designations DSR/X and FXE. Motorcycle.com says that sounds like new off-road focused models to them, but they are just guessing:  https://www.motorcycle.com/mini-features/zero-files-dsr-x-and-fxe-trademarks.html

Interesting.
I would say a more more off road DSR sounds right.

I have wanted to see a FXR for a while but a FXE?  I'm guessing either extended range or faster charging.

Could be what I've been saying they should do, putting FX wheels and suspension on a DS. It'll be a shame if it is based only on the DSR though as that means more weight because of the larger battery and even more cost.

FXE could be either Endurance with a larger battery (but that would mean a new frame, so at that point you may as well just do what I said above and give a DS the FX suspension) or Enduro with even more travel and whatever else would make it more capable off road.

What I would love is 50% more range and couple.

Maybe it’s the new motor technology? I forget what it’s called, has to do with optimizing windings for both low-end torque and high-end power.

A small update as Zero posted this on Instagram today. The FXE will be announced on the 13th July. Looks to have road tyres so another street model and the E doesn't stand for Enduro. New bodywork and headlight, they're not showing the battery or motor so still a chance those could be new.

I hate those blacked-out teaser photos that seem to be the current rage.  What is the point? Is it just to create a lot of speculation on social media?

What fun is the internet without speculation and assumptions?

I'll speculate that both of these models are updated cypher iii components in the models we already know.

I'm betting just new body work, and all the rest is the same. I even bet they'll keep the same crappy Calex charger in there that always goes out on these models. They have strung this frame / setup along since 2013, with decent improvements in battery cells (not to Zero's credit, that would be Farrasis) and the IPM splined motor, all which stagnated in 2018, and nothing but BNG and complete neglect for obvious pitfalls of this bike that have been around since day 1(1 - charger reliability, 2 - motor cooling). Oh and lets not forget the few extra KB of flash in the OBC so the end user could install install firmware instead of the dealer.

I do hope though that the batteries get better thermal properties like the srf/ srs and adequate public L2 charging.

I don't think it will be just bodywork or a few updated components because then it would still just be an FXS, it's got to be something significant to justify the new model name.

They need to lower the price, not raise it, tho.

Zeros will always be too expensive in Australia. That's the way distributor deals work here. Kills all sorts of makets.

I sure hope that this announcement is more significant than the Livewire One release last week.  Anyone seen info on where or what time the announcement will be?
