I thought I'd post something fun.  This is not meant to start any arguments...

To all Zero owners...IF an Energica dealer had been (or is) as close to you as a local Zero dealer, would you have considered them?

For me, it was a non-starter. I've never seen an Energica in my life and no dealers near me in Ohio.  I'd probably still find them too heavy for my tastes, but I have no way of knowing..

I bought my first Zero in January 2012 from a multi-brand dealer located about 10 miles from my home.  I then replaced it with a 2014 Zero bought from the same dealer.  In 2017 my longtime BMW dealer, located 40 miles away, started carrying the Energica brand, but by then I was satisfied with my Zero experience and both the price of the Energica, its weight, complexity and the fact that it was an unproven motorcycle by a new manufacturer at the time put me off from buying one.  For my type of riding and usage, I find that my Zero works for me.

There's an Energica dealer near me which is very strongly influencing the way way I lean on this (just not jumped yet because of occasionally bemoaned-about weight issues) Main issue with the Zero: nearest dealer is 70 miles away... at the very edge of their range and there's no DCFC for it, so <shrugs>

I feel this is more aimed at SR/F and SR/S owners, possibly SR. There could be an Energica dealer right next door to me and I still wouldn't have bought one as it doesn't serve my needs. Too expensive, too heavy, not suited to going off road, not as much storage (and it's too powerful for me to ride on my current licence but let's just assume I had a full licence).

Now, if I was in the market for an SR/F or SR/S as an additional bike then an Energica would be tempting. My nearest dealer is English Electric at about 80 miles away and less than 2 hours which I think is fine, I don't think the fact that a Zero dealer would be closer than that would weigh into my buying decision.

Exactly.  While I've followed Zero for some time, I wouldn't have considered buying my FXS if there wasn't a dealer within driving distance.  In my case, 12 miles away.

So I don't get this argument at all.

Energica's dealer support network is definitely a weakness.  By being in Livermore they've taken themselves out of consideration until we have a truck.  They're 70 miles away, but ugh.  That's two 2500' passes via freeway so not even fun to ride.

The Energica is too big, too heavy, too expensive now and later.  Sure, it's probably the best ride freeway right now.  But that's not the be-all of motorcycling.

Crissa, I'm not sure where you're located in the bay (I assume that's the Livermore you're speaking of, Cal Moto). But If you're on the peninsula I believe Energica has an official service center in Redwood City. I'm not sure if that's a corporate location where bikes are sent from dealers for more in depth service or if it's open to the public: https://goo.gl/maps/hQwpaGF3JmhLYWcW7

I haven't checked but might be worth a look.

Also, I believe the old Cal Moto Mountain View location is a drop off/pickup location for bikes they service. Not sure if that has changed since COVID started.

I am quite a bit further from any Energica dealer.  I have my SS9 mostly in Reno, NV these days.

Since it looks like the Energica Plus sales will be very high, perhaps soon they will have a few more dealers, if they can make enough bikes to support more dealers.

Livermore is better for me than was Mtn. View.    Before the move, the Livermore shop didn't sell Energica.

But I plan on doing my own work on the bike wherever possible. Energica requires a bit more maintenance than any Zero because of needed coolant and gearbox oil changes.

IMAO, every shop that services  electric bikes should have a charge station outside, even if only a J-1772.  It would also be nice if Harley had their CCS chargers at every shop, not only the ones that sell the LW.

I would be very happy when I buy my Energica if the Redwood City location is available for buying and/or service. Since I live in San Carlos it would make my life much easier in terms of maintenance and buying. When the time comes I'll check with them. I actually work about 3 blocks from that location, but with COVID I feel "dropping by" isn't the best idea. I'll give them a call when I get serious. Worst case scenario I'll head to Livermore.
