AAA publishes a bi-monthly magazine titled VIA.  I usually just recycle it, but their latest issue had a long article written by Bradley Berman who was loaned an Audi E-Tron SUV and then drove it around Northern California and Southern Oregon.  I thought some of you might find this comment interesting:

In Crescent City he stopped at a Walmart to use one of their four Electrify America charging stations. He reports that his "perfectly good credit card is repeatedly declined at the first two. I manage to get the third to initiate a fast 150-kilowatt charge, but the process inexplicably stops when the vehicle is less than half charged.  After a few more tries, with the sky darkening, the Audi finally has enough charge to reach Grants Pass."

Yeah, Transport Evolved reported that those card readers are super-unreliable. in their own road trips, and have had a couple stations cut out and not charge properly.

To me, this is why we need more charging points of all kinds, so we're more fault tolerant.

Early days for the tech, innit. It'll take ~10 years or so I reckon before it's five nines reliability. Imagine if petrol pumps were this unreliable...

Every charge network out there need to have payment agreements with all the big auto manufacturers so customers don't have to worry about fiddling with apps, payment fobs, credit cards to charge up. Charging an E-Tron shouldn't be more difficult than a Model 3.

Yeah.  EA and EVgo and ChargePoint DC are becoming pretty redundant on the I-5 and I-80 corridors, and I'm guessing some other interstates as well. It's a good thing, for CCS capable vehicles anyway.

It would be nice if more companies adopted the "Pay with PlugShare" integration, but they'll probably keep insisting on using their own clunky, stupid apps. I'm looking at you, EVgo.

From what I have been reading, the charging seems to be much more reliable if the app is used.
Not just Electrify America, but, almost all of them.
Electrify America seems to have the most stable pricing.
