If I lived in an area that got really cold I would not consider an EV at this time. I have the same gripe about cars having too much 'stuff' built into them. Do not need auto-pilot, over the top built-in entertainment systems, etc and really want manual controls as opposed to touch screens.
However, I like the basic concept of an electric car. When, not if, I buy I will be looking for just three things, reliability, durability, and 300 mile plus range in moderate temperatures at normal cruising hyw speeds.
I live on the west coast and know a couple of Tesla owners and they are extremely happy with the their cars but acknowledge that there are some rough spots for a car in that price range, however they would buy again.
