And FYI the old 13.4 kWh Egos were 645 lbs.

AHH thank you, and thank you. My other shows were 20-30 minutes. I am also putting this out as a podcast. I literally just figured out how yesterday. The length has always been a sticking point with my podcasts. I personally prefer longer-length shows and podcasts. However, I agree and I too feel the weekly news thing works closer to 20 minutes. And most of the YouTube videos I watch are that length. So I will make that my target. I will work on the news aggregation part. I'm not much on links, as it's time-consuming, and I find getting to links on YouTube a pita. I think I will work on summarizing the stories more. But I'll keep the links in mind. Also I have no choice but to make a slow progression to higher quality so bear with me if you can.

But seriously, thank you for the constructive criticisms. Actually very helpful.

What does a good bump to 17.3 mean in your world.  I emailed Zero a while back and they referred to the numbers they put out as badge numbers.  Nominal voltage times amp hours is generally what is useable.  Ktm is fair it is actually possible to use more kwh to recharge their pack than the 3.9 on their pack.  The charger is likely less than 100% efficient.  You seem to question what fourms others hang at like fourms set the norms.  Besides Ktm who else isn't misleading with their "badge" numbers which often means Max voltage times amp hours.  Same thing with battery tools 18 volts is fair, nominal, 20 volts is max.  Makita is fair most others are misleading.

I am not quite following you, but I'm seeing this right before bed, so maybe that is it. Back in the day when it was just Zero and Brammo, Zero gave the kWhr rating at max voltage and Brammo used Nominal voltage. Then most everyone went the way Zero went, and apparently, when Brammo stepped out KTM stayed the course. Didn't know that. But I never followed the KTM much. When it came out the drivetrain was pretty much almost exactly what a local University had designed. And it was way behind Zero at the time. But the Zero MX went away, except maybe for the military. Its legacy is around in the Zero FX bikes, though. The KTM went away and then came back.

Anyway, I got distracted there. My point had nothing to do with rating the pack at max vs nominal voltage. My point was (and I believe I stated) that Zero has consistently improved the capacity of their packs. And having done a few interviews with Kenyon Kluge the impression I got was that was a lot of that was simply due to the cell manufacture improving the cells they were buying. But 2018 was the year the packs went from 13.5 to 14.4kWhrs. And they stayed there for 4 years. And then there a group of people surprised when they updated the capacity this year, with all the competition beating them incapacity and it having been so long since the last update? Yes, to me it felt like a very odd statement that needed to be called out. So I did.

That's my take. But thank you for taking the time to watch my video. And thank you for the feedback.

I've got to go right now but I saved the video and will watch it later.

I'll say looking at the four you have done the first thing that screams NOOOO is the titles on the videos.

If your wheel house is electric motorcycles then it should have Electric Motorcycle News Weekly nice and spelled out.
You want to try to get YT to suggest you in an electric motorcycle search.
Also name drop the company names that you are talking about in the titles again so it pops up in a search for Livewire or Zero ect.

I'll check back later after I've watched some.

ESBK.co was my old site I had to let go. So it's a bit nostalgic. And if you go back to my old podcasts it's also consistent as they were "ESBK Studios" too. But I see our point. I hope to gradually improve looks and sound. I'm not looking to set the world on fire as I have other priorities. But now that some has spoken up, I will work on what you have said. Thank you.

Hello all. For those who know or remember, I am at it again. I rarely post in here, but I am having fun once a week recording the week's elmoto news as best as I can. I am on YouTube and just last night I figured out how to turn that video into audio and post it to Spotify, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, Podbean, Amazon, and iHeartRadio. I haven't got TuneIn and Pandora set up yet though. But I will work on it. Just search for ESBK Studios.

I don't like spamming the forums, but I'm getting 0 traffic. I thought maybe it's OK to speak up one time and if I get subscribers then heck yeah. If interest doesn't bump up then I can just do it for the fun of it and no one has to watch.

Here's my latest news roundup/show thing. ;)

Thank you for your time.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: 2022 - so is the SR/F now the SR?
« on: November 08, 2021, 08:51:21 AM »
I have never felt the need for an R version of my S. Not only does the R designation increase the cost of insurance, but I don't need its extra performance. My S has plenty of power and acceleration for my usage. In fact, I have never needed to use full throttle on my rides.  :)

Perfect, then how do you feel about them not offering an S with the big pack?

I wouldn't import a bike. I'd call or email and see if I could get one built. Worst case I'd go through a dealer.

Since the SR was always meant to be the sporty version, I'm OK with how they have upgraded it to the SR/F platform (whatever that is called). BUT, you no longer have a long-range proper light weight commuter option. The new SR weighs as much as the old one with the Battery tank. Is anyone else disappointed that they don't now offer the S with the old 14.4 pack? I would understand if they weren't making it anymore, but it's still used to build the DSR. An S won't make my current commute. Not that that is the reason I am not buying one, but as an example. This seems like the biggest oversight to me. And a DSR just isn't my style.

Mission Motors / Re: Mission's IP now lives in Canada
« on: August 28, 2020, 11:15:13 AM »
I did send the Damon guy a friend request but he hasn't responded yet :(

I did call it vaporware at first and he politely but firmly responded that he was doing everything he could to make this bike happen. So I'm going to give him some space and watch, but I have my doubts. The Mission stuff is fascinating because there is hidden tech in that bike that no one else uses. Kinda like the ancient battle suit/armor in the movie Alita: Battle Angel. If they can incorporate it into what they're doing the bikes could become VERY attractive.

Lots of IFs.

I would argue it's not the hardware but the software at this point.

Electric Motorcycle News / Re: Hollywood Electrics sells Brammo again
« on: August 12, 2014, 01:00:19 PM »
No the Empulse does not have a filter, and I don't believe there is a pump in there per se.  You simply drain and fill the 1 liter of oil every 3000 miles.

I see Richard's point, but I still feel the Empulse and the Zero SR are different enough that Zero will not see much if any sales slip from Hollywood Electrics. Merely that Harlan will sell a lot more bikes as now the folks looking to buy a more sport focus elmoto can get one from him. And as far as the complaints about the transmission, it is what makes Brammo, and particularly the Empulse unique.  And I know for a fact that at one point in time if you told Shelina Moreda you were going to take away her transmission she'd go all farm girl on your you know what. ;) But that transmission is exactly why the Brammo has a higher top speed, and is not getting left in the dust by an SR with a less powerful motor. It does it's job, and helps Brammo meet what they feel are demands from sport bike focused customers, while Zero continues to provide bikes that cater to the utilitarian focused rider, who also like to go fast.  And I just don't see Zero putting out a focused sport bike, at least not yet.  Yes people race their bikes, and they help with development, but Zero themselves don't have a racing program (MotoZero is an employee backed effort not a proper factory team like BRT).  What would they do about the chassis without some serious time on the track to sort things out?  I know it has not been an easy road for Brammo.  That electric motor changes things, and they were chasing their tails for a while trying to get the RR sorted and calmed down as they added power to it.  Of course, I do realize this is a little above and beyond what you guys are talking about.

Hello everyone, it's been too long I know. And yes I will still post that podcast. Life got int he way big time.

I had posted this over on other forums, and would like y'all's opinion as well. So I was day dreaming the other day, as usual, about someone doing a proper Empulse vs S/SR comparison.

I'd like 0-60 times, 1/4 mile times, track times, and a street review just like the mags do for everyone else. I'd also like a few of the different versions of these bikes in the test. Such as the Empulse and Empulse R, as well as both the S and SR. However Zero makes it harder with the booster pack option. As it seems to allow more power but adds not insignificant weight up high.

What are your thoughts, and wants?

Electric Motorcycle News / Re: 2013 Tokyo Motor Show wrap-up
« on: December 17, 2013, 10:20:22 AM »

Ive seen suggestion that Tesla are paying $170 per Kwh for their custom Panasonic 18650 cells, and the Chinese cells have already dropped to $75 per Kwh for 4100mAh 18650's.  If you trust them!   Tesla seem to have come up with a bit of a master stroke by building their packs from 18650.  Hopefully its something Zero/Brammo are looking into.

I think you'll find early Brammo packs used that or a similar form to the 18650s.  They moved to prismatics, and I don't think they did so lightly.

As far as MotoGP power levels being at the limits, I actually suspect that the tractability and super fine traction control afforded an electric drivetrain may actually allow for a big hike in what people think is possible for top power limits on a racing motorcycle.  But this relates to sportbikes, and a market I think Brammo is interested in.  In order to make an impression on people Brammo needs to take the Literbikes head on in power and range.  Mission Motorcycles looks like it will do just that this year, and I believe an street going Empulse RR could do just that as well.  EBoz already beat his lap time on the stock Japanese liters bikes at Miller on last year's RR.  The issue is charge time and price.  $15,000 with a 3C charge rate is a tall order.  And range would still be an issue when highway cruising.  But these bikes would require 150kW+ motors and hence a fairly high discharge rate from the cells as well.

I wonder if not all of the current available CHAdeMO chargers being able to do bikes with 100V systems give J1772DC an edge if they don't make the same mistake.  Or everyone will just lease Tesla's tech, should they make it available.

For the record I'd much rather Brammo or Zero made a touring bike than Tesla.  But that's me.

KTM Electric Forum / Re: Impressions: KTM Freeride E & Zero
« on: December 16, 2013, 04:54:49 AM »
Last I knew the Freeride E was equivalent to their 85cc bike size wise with 125 power.  I don't think it would be able to hang with a 2012 Zero MX, much less the twice as powerful 2013 MX.  Comparing any these bikes to a long since outdated 2010 MX doesn't make since as it has changed every year since.

However, I am a streetrider.  But to me the first upgrade you want to do to any motorcycle you buy is suspension.  It seems to me stock suspension is almost never up to the task.  But I am 100kg, so that may have something to do with it.

Good talking with you, Ben, Dan and Susana.  I hope you feel better soon, Richard, and get some rest.  :)

Best,
+m

Thank you.  I will.

Yes, that went really well!  Sorry I ended it so badly.  We had a great cross section of people and locations.  I really think we hit all the important stuff too.  Thank you everyone for their time!  It'll be a few weeks before the podcast is out.  I'll let you all know.
