Apparently this is a cypher 3 battery, which is different from cypher 2, and not compatible. If anyone is thinking you can buy a newer power tank for their fx YOU CAN'T! You have to get the zf 3.6 power packs (for $3,000).

I guess I am going to try swapping the doghouse from my old fx battery to the newer power pack. Or purchase a newer cypher 3 bike.

You want to Close the contactor as in close the open (circuit).

The more I see, the more I’m cornFused.
Is it a 10k or 100k resister?
Which instructions are correct?
The video, the manual, or you?

Each is conflicting & I don’t know which is right.
There are 8 sockets & 8 pins on the control/monitor side & -/+ on the battery side.
Suggest you probe all 32 different combinations for battery voltage.
Make sure that the socket is truly missing vs damaged as was the case in the discussion you provided via link.

I don't know which is right either, I'm using the information from others. The video says 100k resistor, the diagram says 10k. I'm using a 100k. I have probed all sockets and found nothing of importance. A few volts here and there.

It appears that the pins are not there from the factory, it would be near impossible to damage just these 3 pins.

I will say, I have 3 short bricks total. 2 from the original bike, 1 new one. Only 1 of the 2 original batteries will close the contactor off bike with my diy cable, but both original batteries work when keyed on. Strange behavior.

I’m not sure what/where the “right three bottom pins” are.

Can you access the contactor to check incoming cables for voltage?

In this picture, where the red probe is, there isn't a female pin on my power pack. It's just empty/plastic. Same for the two next to it, and those are the pins that are supposed to open the contactor

Silly question, did you check for voltage on the battery?

I tried to. the right 3 bottom pins are missing

I came across a 2024 SR power tank take off, and bought it. After removing both batteries in my 2015 FX, installing the new power tank in one of the old battery's spot, installing a loop back plug, and keying the bike on, nothing happens.

Could my bike need a newer MBB firmware to talk to the battery? Did the seller pull one over on me (dead battery)? I've tried using a mix of old and new battery but that doesn't work either.

Has there been any attempt to rebuild or custom design batteries for the FX or SR? For the FX, it should be possible if the cells fit and the old battery board can be reused.

Is this still available?

There is a pin that the L bar battery holder sits on. That is probably more what is retaining the battery than the shear strength of those two tiny bolts.

I noticed that, and it's a good point, but since my latch fell off from the bolts working themselves loose it wasn't doing anything at all. I went to home depot and they only had socket head screws in M3, not pan head, so we'll see if those will work.

9
The latch itself isn't the problem, it's the latch mounting point where it hooks on. I mean, these are designed to be hardcore offroad dirtbikes, and these two bolts hold in ~100 lbs of batteries.

Considering a new Z force pack is upwards of $3k, this could be a real problem, but I guess most criminals would just take the whole bike.

Wow Zero, you protect the most important part of the bike with two itty bitty bolts? That don't even have lock tight applied? Looks like I'm taking a trip to the hardware store because one managed to work its way loose and disappeared. You'd think they'd have welded this one. Thousands of dollars could be lost by something just walking up and cracking these screws, as we all know, the battery is the most costly thing on any EV.

Of course charging voltage has to be higher than battery vpltage :)

What i meant was:
How can i check the input voltage of the charger while charging? I dont want the charger to put in for example 140v when the battery has only 103v

The app just shows me battery voltage not charger voltage

So the way it works is when the charger is connected, it can't actually put out 140v, if it did then it would apply like 1000 amps and definitely overheat the battery. The charger voltage is so close to the battery voltage it doesn't matter. What does matter is how high the charger will charge the battery to. You don't want to overcharge to a higher voltage than recommended (115v I think).

Hopefully that sort of explains it. The charger isn't capable of doing what you think it might do. The only thing you need to check is final pack voltage after charging.

Tech Help / Re: Type 2 charging for Zero FX advice.

My advice is some sort of J1772 adapter, tusconev.com makes a j1772 to pev adapters that are perfect for our application. The OBC doesn't have any issues at 220/240v. Then, if you plan to in the future, you can add something like an elcon or deltaq charger for faster charging. I don't know why no one mentions a tank bag or saddle bags. I have my 3.3kw in my tankbag and it's close enough to me it feels a part of me on my fx.

I fried my 2.5kW inverter and I have not found a reasonably priced replacement. Inverters that can handle the full Zero battery voltage are rare.

DC to DC converter down to 12v and then the options are plentiful ;) I can't say you'll find a reasonably priced one however. There's this one, or elcon makes a 1kw version, maybe there's an ev that has a high kw version to salvage from.

Hello! Hoping some folk here can shed some light on the following:

1) Any new info on aftermarket seats? I can't find anyone who makes a bolt-on unit, only trim shops who do custom work. Looking to make my stock seat more comfortable for a passenger.

2) When charging my bike, I notice that the battery level never goes above 97% no matter how long I leave it plugged in, why is this? Does it indicate a battery issue or battery life decay?

3) Now at 2300 miles, I still have a very annoying squeak from the front wheel. Thinking it may be the bearing or hub since the sound is rhythmic and codependent upon my rolling speed. It's obnoxious. I had the bike in for service last year, I asked the technician about it and he swore up and down that he rode the bike for 45 minutes and didn't hear one squeak (which is simply not possible). Does anyone know of a simple solution? Should I try some lithium grease on the hub or what? I would love to solve this. The FXS is super fun, but this loud squeaking is embarrassing.

Thanks!

The guy who sold me my 2015 FX says it has a custom seat on it, it has the ZERO motorcycle branding on it. I can't confirm if it actually isn't the stock seat, but the loopback plug is missing under the seat which makes me think it could be.

EDIT: Definitely not stock. It appears to be an older model seat, see this thread:

Do you suppose they use the smaller charger because of the battery warranty? It's not going to make much difference if you charge occasionally at a higher rate when on a longer trip but if you doubled the charge rate every time you charged for the life of the battery that might have an adverse effect. Even with 650 watts it will always charge overnight. Are they protecting us from ourselves maybe?

Purely a cost concern. Aftermarket chargers run $600+ for 3.3kw, now imagine a nice OEM unit, like the 6.6kw charge tank, it cost 2.3k. They certainly could price the fx/s/e a few grand more, but then why not buy a beefier model?
