Now this is an interesting concept, but unless I am missing something, you are sitting way the hell up in the sky on this one!

This would be an absolute game changer and pretty much end range anxiety. Still, it looks like the rider is too tall jones, and for shorter people like me, hopping up on this thing, you better have mommy close by to hold the bike up until you get up to speed ;D
This bike could put Energica and all of them to test. Hell, maybe they can partner with the new Energica and between the two of them, come up with some stupid fast bike that's going to not just set new records but destroy anyone's chances of even nearing them for a while! As for handling, having more down force absolutely would be nice, the EGO can get a bit light up front and if you get on a seam on the track, that can get...interesting, but there's more to handling turns than down force, how does it take a corner at speeds, if you are much higher up?
I'd love to get my hands on one to try on the track.

They'll literally do anything BUT actual known proven aerodynamic improvements and instead focus on stupid minutia like this and winglets.

I think given that it barely changes anything in the silhouette that, well, 5% is 5%, that's another 5 miles for me without adding any weight, so not to be completely sniffed at. Now combine that with a ZZR1100 fairing and we might see some even bigger gains.

according to them, fairings are childs play, cutting a hole in the middle of everything makes it more efficient. maybe we should put a donut on the very front of the bike, right under the headlight to help channel the air in, and if you get pulled over by a cop doing 235 mph, well, maybe it just might get you out of a ticket!
It just seems to me, the mass of the motor and battery are still there, the hole is basically adding another level or story to it, bike, hole, rider. it just seems counterintuitive but they said the wind tunnel says otherwise. im not sure, static tests well...id still want to see real world, but again, this is a design just to make it go straight and fast, when it comes time to turn, ummm maybe not so nifty then.

You either have a fundamental misunderstanding of aerodynamics or you are cheering for stupid engineers wasting hours for news bytes.

I have a reasonable grasp.
Of course, that 5% is only going to manifest over 100mph so it's probably a bit irrelevant anyway... but my empirical observations about the ZZR remain proven and valid. It was about 30% more efficient than any of its contemporaries in ordinary riding.

The latest "aerodynamic" (?) devices that I have seen on a motorcycle were on a new BMW M1000RR sport bike. Not only did it have really large wings on the side of its fairing, but it also had a carbon fiber cover over the lower 1/3rd of the front brake discs. Even the owner of the bike wasn't sure what those were for. Maybe aero, or maybe disc cooling, or maybe it was just another place to locate more expensive carbon fiber farkles. ;)

I'll ask Nate, he's their (BMW's) brand ambassador here and he races that bike, not that one but the RR, his is of course tricked out though.
I'll take a shot and say the cover is for aerodynamics, a smoother air flow instead of turbulence thru the brake assembly, but i would have to wonder, how does that affect brake cooling when you reduce airflow to an air cooled device?

Anything designed for FIM or AMA racing is fundamentally hamstrung by restrictions set in 1957 designed to slow down bikes from going too fast.

According to Fortnine the winglets actually make drag worse and their purpose is the same as the "fences" (to stop the air defecting) on old soviet fighters.
Anyway, last I checked aero for ordinary street use was impractical for motorbikes because 1) You don't ride scrunched up like a pretzel wearing the right slippery gear 2) You probably have something strapped or clamped to the bike to carry useful items 3) Smoothly integrating the airflow at the rear is both very important and very hard 4) People want to buy naked bikes.
I tried a while back but found it very hard to research but basicly a modern EV car is about .225-.25cd, a transit van or pickup truck is about a 0.4, a MotoGP rider at full tuck is roughly 0.6, a properly tucked Hayabusa is a little better, and it's *really* hard to get numbers for someone sitting normally on a naked bike but it's somewhere in the ballpark of 0.8.

the difference between race hunch and sitting upright sticking out like a dick on a dog... at 70 mph can be 10kw. a number of things affect this.
wind is huge, after around 35 to 40 mph, my experience, your number one thing killing speed and/or efficiency is wind drag.
even with fairings, the difference is a lot. you have a screen that tells you your consumption on an Energica, give it a try, get on the highway, set cruise control at whatever.....let it settle out, and do minute or two minute runs both tucked and sitting straight up and see for yourself the differences in how much power you eat, just for sitting up.
how much drag coefficient is this, i couldn't tell you, i have not done any math, just looked at power use.
another tidbit, my truck, towing an empty trailer, get shitty gas mileage, the trailer is a huge parachute basically. towing the same trailer *same drag* but with 1200 lbs of shit in it, mileage goes up a lot, because now it's not just wind pushing you back, but all that mass on it pushing you forward too, helping maintain the momentum.
even an open bike trailer, empty it's a parachute, put an almost 600 lb bike on it to split the wind before hit hits the back ramp, mileage goes up 4 mpg. sometimes things that are not even in the wind path can change outcomes.
ps, the ribelle can touch 150 with bags on it on a good day, rider crunched way down, not recommended though. normal street speeds tend to be lower anyways, the condition of the road can really cause issues at higher speeds, even little things add up to a lot of problems at 160 mph
aero for street bikes IS important imo, even though people may not be doing everything right, it can make a difference, especially if you are racing, drag, or just saturday night street racing. 10 to 15 mph is very significant.

Here are a couple of photos of the 2025 BMW M1000RR, which according to the bike's Russian commercial pilot owner, cost something north of $30K. No doubt due to all of the carbon fiber on the bike. Even the wheels are carbon fiber. :o

Fully unlocked, chipped and tweaked in the US it will run about 35 to 40k or so to make it fully race ready that also unlocks the speed on it too, that bike can go north of 200 mph. The bike when bought new has i think it's a 12 hour break in on it, you have to keep the revs in a certain limit, as the engine needs some parts wear fitted and it needs a break in before they fully open it up. Im not sure if nate is running the 25, i know he has the 24 fully tricked by bmw for racing and i know they give him early previews of the new stuff coming etc, he probably has a 25 too. he goes all over showing off their stuff at the bmw shops world wide. I fuck with him saying if he ever wants a real bike ill allow him to ride my ego, it's worth a good laugh. I tell you what, that is a sweet ass bike and it's about the same profile as an EGO just a little lighter. Riding it was a lot of fun.
Ill give him a call tonight and see if he's busy or can chat a bit and i can ask him about the brake cover. I need to discuss some things with him anyways. any other?s you'd like me to ask? He's a pro racer and the official brand ambassador for bmw so his answers would be pretty spot on.

TBH i find that with my Ribelle, have to set the preload and rebound a bit differently for hwy .vs. track, but even then, the bouncy bouncy she wants to get real light sometimes.
it'd be an interesting experiment, not sure how you'd mount it but id love to put a strain gauge on the front fork, measure the weight on it at idle and at speeds and braking, see exactly what kind of forces are happening up there. When it feels light, how light is it really?

Motorcycles have inherently bad aerodynamics. Largely because of the rider being in the airstream. But it's like the manufacturers usually don't try to design the bike itself for aerodynamics. Over 90% of the designers seem to follow the trend they were taught in design school. To make emotional looks. Angry "faces", dark colors and aggressive transformer looks if you want to appeal to young or middle age males that make up majority of motorcycle buyers. Nice colors, practicality like storage if you want to appeal to females. Managers and designers like to keep their jobs, so the product has to sell. Failed product looks bad on the CV, no matter what the reason was. Different usually doesn't sell. Fuel economy and aerodynamics doesn't sell, horsepower does. The most daring design differences between bikes today tend to be features in system parts, dash connecting to the phone etc. Those are still not settled into a form so there is a design freedom there.
Gee maybe cover the rider up oh wait the racing legislation mandates the rider must be visibly fully exposed. The rules are written to slow the bikes down. Racing fairings are actively designed to slow the bikes down. This was a conscious decision made almost 70 years ago by the FIM.
Remove. The. Restrictions.
