Survey on Zeros so far
« on: June 11, 2015, 07:15:28 PM »

Hi guys this is such a small company  and smaller still forum posters but I thought it would be interesting to get some idea of a bigger picture of who owns what and amount of riding they do on it, type of riding and any issues (break downs, dealer issues, overall satisfaction) I know I was reading post well before I joined and others might like some info all in one place.

Type: 2014 Zero SR with Power Tank bought used 3800 miles on odometer from Dealer (It was a manufacturers Demo)
Riding Style: Use it for 40 mile round trip Commute to and from work 90% highway 10% city

I've only had it for a little over a month and already put on over 700 miles on it.
The only issue I've had so far was the overheating light coming on after a 20 mile ride home in 90 degree heat after accelerating from a light pretty hard. The light started blinking but the bike performed normal. About 5-10 seconds after letting off the throttle the light went off.

Loving the bike so far

Same bike as above (2014 SR w/ power tank) bought used from a car dealership with 600km on it. Was a trade-in they wanted to shift.

Rides beautifully, doesn't currently turn off.

It's replacing the current steed and it's associated duties of getting me to work during the week and plastering a giant grin on my face over the weekend.

2014 Zero S, with power tank.  I ride it about 500 miles a month around the local area. Most of my rides are to visit friends and relatives (free charging!) and for utility reasons, such as shopping and other short trips that are just not worth warming up one of my other motorcycles.  My Zero has replaced my car for most trips and I am only driving my 1999 Saturn station wagon about 300 miles a year now.  After the original power tank was replaced because it was defective, I have not had any problems and the bike has run perfectly for the past year.  I haven't even had to adjust the drive belt yet.  :)

2013 S 8.5 with 10,500 miles. Local pleasure riding. I ride it almost every day. I previously owned a 2011 S with the DC motor. The brushes caused the motor to fail on that one after just 3700 mi. or so. I have had no issues with the 13 S since the firmware update a year ago. Before that it would need to be re-booted a couple times before setting off occasionally.

Rode my 2012 Zero S for 23,500 miles before trading it in.  Daily commuter, plenty of highway, rode it cross country in 2013, then on a 6,000 mile ride around the east coast and midwest.

Now riding a 2014 Zero SR and put about 3,000 miles on it in 3 months.  Going for a 5,000 mile trip starting tomorrow from NYC to FL, over to Mexico, up to Ohio then back home.

Love it!

2013 DS 11.4 with 14,000 miles. Regular commuting, local trips, and all errands like groceries. I have top and side cases and a commuter windscreen. I get about 100 miles per charge regularly which includes a lot of highway usage.

I had a BMS issue the first year I rode it, and a loose front sprocket key, both fixed under warrantee. I upgraded the rear brakes with the 2014 J Juan kit.

I'm hoping to put a big fairing on it and fast-DC charger so I can make longer day trips. It's possible I'll be lured to trade for a 2016 model, since improvements seem to keep stacking up.

2015 FX with a top case.  I use it as a commuter bike; I only use my car when weather's bad or driving people and cargo.  I have yet to find any dirt trails where I live, but I'm still looking.

Brand new so no issues as of yet.

Dealer was great, no issues whatsoever.

Insurance was a problem: State Farm California recognizes the bike while State Farm New York does not for some reason. I use progressive now, but I wish I could have had it all under one roof.

2012XU. back roads commuter. Been reliable for the past 6 months. Prior to that, multiple unreliability issues*

 - see http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=3504.0

So, it's not a bike that's trusted in this household.

Peter

*What's the collective noun for multiple issues with motorcycle reliability? A BSA?

Hitting two years on my 2013 S 11.4. There's 16,500 miles on the odometer and that's mostly highway commuting, plus a few pleasure rides here and there. I did have a problem with the motor shaft making doing this weird rattle, which the dealer and Zero were able to get resolved after a couple tries.

Obviously, life would have been better without that issue, but I am still satisfied with the bike as it has been solid since then

I just got  '15 9.4 DS which I converted to a 12.6, and its got about 7k on the odo so far.

Its mostly used for highway commuting, my commute is 67mi each way 65-70mph and one 2k ft mountain pass.

So far, it has only one problem and that was the onboard charger, which went tits up a day into owning it. Zero service was pretty inept, so I fixed it myself.

about time for some new tires in another thousand miles or so.

2013 S 8.5 with only 3400 miles. Used for city commuting during warm weather. Round trip commute only 16 miles, all city. Split the week between bicycle and Zero. Still take long trips and weekend jaunts on IC bike and use IC bike  in winter as it has a fairing, heated grips and hippo hands. (Remember those?) love the Zero.  Being so light and maneuverable it's perfect for the city. Had some BMS issues early on but Zero fixed everything on warranty.  Dealer and factory were helpful and knowledgable. Can't wait to see what 2016 brings.

I got a factory demo 2013 DS with 50 km on it last fall.  Since then, I've put 4400 km on it.  I recently had a loose front pulley issue which was making a weird clicking noise.  My dealership resolved it very quickly.  I made some light modifications to it, but what I'm really looking forward to is an integrated a fast(er) charging option.

I have a 2014 SR that I purchased as Demo bike with 1700 miles on it. I ride it as my 44 mile a day commuter vehicle. Just passed the 5000 mile mark and I purchased it in Oct. '14.
Only issues I have had so far have been minor power issues likely caused from leaving it uncovered in the rain. The stock rubber on the '14 sucks and it looks like I will be replacing the rear tire soon.
Other than that I love the thing. It gets attention from so many people I have a hard time stopping at lights without drivers yelling questions out their windows at me ;)
