New 2011 XU owner!
« on: July 03, 2012, 05:20:26 AM »

hi all, I just got myself a 2011 XU. It was a "Demo" one but have only like 15km on the Odometer. So it is like brand new, and I got a good deal on it. That's why I get the 2011 instead of 2012, even though 2012 has better speed and range...

Anyway, I am still learning about my XU, since I don't have an owner's manual, I did read a lot of post to learn about the bike, charging...etc. I am still in the "run-in" period, only 3 partial cycle charges. As of currently, the range is really bad right now. I can only go around 22km and then I am flashing with only one bar left. I am hoping it will get better after 4 partial cycle charge. Anyway, I did try to email Zero to see if I can get a copy of owner manual. As there are some question that I like to get an answer of, like: how to read the charging light...where to get and what kind of brake pads, do I need to lube the chain from time to time...

So far, I like riding the XU a lot, but the one thing I really not get use to is the lack of storage space. I use to ride a 50cc scooter, with a trunk and top-case, so now I even have no idea where to put my insurance paper when I am riding it...

anyway, I am happy to get onboard, and looking forward to learn many things from all of you!

2011 used a brushed motor, chain drive, and a smaller 1.7 kWh battery pack.

hungff77 - I believe the 2011 bikes did give better range after the first few cycles. The 2011 XU was rated at 40 km in city riding, if you ride at 60+ km/h the range will be shorter.

Lack of internal storage space is one of the hallmarks of motorcycling.. there's a wide variety of luggage you can strap on that will help.

Rewski posted a snapshot of a PDF describing the run-in period for the 2011 bikes.

Nice to see you made it here hungff77!

This may sound a bit dumb, but have you checked the air pressure in your tires? If they're underinflated they could be causing a bit of range loss...

Welcome to the Zero XU owners club !

If you need the 2012 doc, I can send you the PDF. My 2012 is doing 50 km without specific attention. Perfect for me.

I hear you on the storage space. First thing I noticed too having owned scooters. My 2011 S has two tubes where parts of the frame connect and I use those for my newspaper or other small items. Try a fanny pack or backpack.  The 2011 XU is light too which will make it nimble and loads of fun. Hope you get the range problem fixed.
