Hey, yes it can absolutely be bricked, simply because all the important settings are there.
But if you follow the instructions and don't click anywhere wrong, it's fine. You should know how to use DVT before, there's a Manual PDF that helps in preparation:)

Just to bump this thread to 2025, my findings are as follows.

The Ixxat USB-to-CAN interface is now even harder to find
BorgWarner have bought Sevcon, and apparently make the Sevcon DVT application freely available, but I have not been able to locate it, nor had any responses to my emails.
There are now a variety of 0-5v cable pull pots available thanks to the influx of chinese ev scooters etc, so I feel that a clutch lever and cable is easier to implement, cheaper and slightly less messy : )
