The simpler solution is just a regen braking lever on the left. Infinitely adjustable and intuitive.

The Chevy Bolt regen does it incredibly well, even in single-pedal driving mode where you hardly ever touch the brakes. You just use the throttle to go as slow or fast as you care to. If getting to the right speed means slowing down, the car regens. If you're maintaining speed on a downgrade, you're still applying throttle, but it's using no power, very little power, or regen, depending. It's all so smoothly integrated you don't feel any hiccup when transitioning from speeding up to slowing down to regen to mechanical braking. The regen paddle allows one to slow more quickly, but I hardly ever feel a need for it in single-pedal driving mode. Chopping the throttle regens to a stop pretty quickly.
