Newby intro, Zero DS owner
« on: November 30, 2010, 03:31:54 AM »

Hi all.  Just thought I'd say hello and intro.  Been interested in electric motorcycles for a decade and was always making plans to build but my lack of any perceptible skill always prevented me.  Just bought a Zero DS and it's far far far better than anything I ever imagined creating myself.

Cheers Jason =:)

Greetings!

I recently took test rides on both the 2011 S and DS models, finding the DS to have better handling / lighter steering feel, but having to reach out with extended toes to reach the ground... The lower seat solved that, so I signed up to buy the 2011 with that option, but with the dealer's agreement to apply the price toward a 2012 if the feature/price ratio made the grade.  Specs to be revealed at EICMA next Tuesday!!!  Is a direct linear relationship between price and range to be expected?  Dynamic braking?  Constant-speed tranny?  The clock ticks on!

=D

Hey Rick, welcome! So what's the verdict on the 2012 vs 2011?
Just placed the order for a 2012 DS "6".  Awesome improvements like the dual-stator 3-phase motor with "engine-braking" regen, plus the 50% increase in battaery capacity at the same weight.  Well worth the additional $3k or so out the door, even if the federal rebate expires before they hit the dealerships...  Gonna be a long wait tho :-\
