SF TechShop for inventors
« on: March 31, 2011, 04:24:30 AM »

An article in my newspaper titled "TechShop gives inventors a place to work and play", written by Marcus Wohlsen of the AP, reports that a "newfangled workshop for would-be inventors" has opened in the South of Market area of San Francisco. It will "give geeks a chance to get out from behind the keyboard".

Modeled after gyms, TechShop offers members who pay as little as $100 a month, a place to use its "industrial-strength" equipment to invent whatever they can imagine. The two-floor  workshop is 17,000 sf and contains shops for working with wood, metal, plastics, and textiles, plus an electronics lab and computer design stations. Offices are also available that can be rented by the month for the used by new startups.

The most popular tool in the shop is the laser cutter.   ;D
